My computer just started up. When this happened before, I just assumed that one of my dogs pushed up against the power button, which is right on front - and the computer is on the floor.
Have any of you experienced this type of thing? Although I have seen it running before when it shouldn't have been, it's not at the same times.

What kind of computer?
I just added that - Dell Studio XPS, Vista
Sorry, I have never used a Dell. When I had my E Machines and turned it off in Vista I would sometimes miss hit the off button and hit sleep, and when the cat jumped on the desk she would wake the computer back up.
Ghosts?? Happy Halloween!!

Wow, That's crazy!!
When you finish your work and "turn off" the PC, do you go through the "shut down" process? I guess I'm wondering if you just allow your PC to go to sleep, instead of powering it down.

Have you let anyone remotely get in your computer .? Nowadays never know what can go on. Virus maybe?
click on start , right click on computer , click on properties ,then click on device manager in the upper left , double click on Network Adapters , double click on the network listed , click on the Power Management tab , remove the check from the box - allow to wake ... Try this first . If you have more then one computer , turning on one can turn on another thru this setting . Even if you don't have two , uncheck the box .. I do computer repairs as a side job..

Yes, I do, and this one hasn't been used in about three days. Maybe it just wanted attention. My dogs keep coming over to me for attention, too. :D

Send it to me and I will fix the problem.

OK. Send me the shipping and insurance cost, and I'll get it right out. The cost of shipping is probably higher than the value of this four-year-old Dell. You know how quickly non-Apple computers lose their value. :D
Jerry, all my computers, sesk and laptop are plugged into power bars, computer off power gets turned off, no problems,
Bob.
BTW, when I was working we had dells, the mainframe could turn the machines back on if we did not disconnect the power, could be something in dells.
Bob.

A possibility, but I don't feel like rewiring everything. This auto-on computer is plugged in under the desk, and I don't want to have to crawl around on the floor to turn it on and off.
