Just to reiterate: if you are NORMALLY a zoom user, this thread is for YOU to get out of your comfort zone and experience life with ONE focal length...it's not for us prime users to post...heck...we already do our "sneaker zoom" don't we?

Bring on the zoom users and you are welcome to use any prime lens you have OR tape that zoom into one place for a week...

And here I thought I was clear at the start...lol...

Did a similar thing at a camera club with a disposable camera. One shot each and then it got passed along to the next member. Not quite the same as going for a whole week. Though when I got my first SLR I only had the one lens for ages.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun!

This is becoming a pretty entertaining post, I think it's a great idea but trying to get through to some of these people is like talking to a brick. I mentioned the 90 macro because I find it one of the most versatile lenses you could use for this test, I could live with just that lens, obviously a great macro lens but it is also a very good portrait lens & great all rounder.
I would love to take part but unfortunately I have 2 hands & arms in plaster & traction along with many more injuries from a motorcycle accident back in July, I was air lifted to hospital & spent 10 days in ICU expected to die but I somehow came out of it & am now slowly recovering praying I will eventually be able to hold & use a camera again. my right wrist is gone so my hand is just fused to my arm with no movement so all I can do is hope.
I'm typing with one finger very slowly.
I hope you don't mind me waffling on on your post if so I apologise.
Have a good one !!!

I've read threads here on the 'hog about wanting that "do all" lens because their current line up of multiple zooms just isn't short/and/long enough to take a shot of everything they see in every instance....

I propose (to anyone who's game) that you pick a lens (if it's a prime lens) or pick a focal length on your favorite zoom..and tape it down so it won't move, and shoot that for a whole week...or shoot it ONLY for your next outing.

Get used to not trying to get "every shot you see"...the fact is...you miss all kinds of shots...that's just life.

Using only one lens forces you to change positions...change angles...get low, get high....get creative, to pay more attention to the light instead of swapping lenses...to wring more out of that focal length than you otherwise might have.

What do you think? Are you up for it?

If you are....you can post a few of your results here...I'd be interested in seeing how you did and how you adjusted to the idea.

If you have only criticism or want to complain about how mean I am...then move on...I'm not interested in bickering with you here.

I am up to it! Have a 50mm prime lens that I very seldom use. Anything to help me improve my craft.

Bye Bye Mr. Zoom. :XD:

Actually. I have just purchased a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 prime lens. It has been on my D3100 for about 2 weeks now and I do not see it being removed. This is one tremendous lens. If I need something longer I'll just use the SX50. Unfortunately, I've been unable to post my shots on UHH for some unknown reason.

Used to do that all the time in the film days. Put a 50mm prime on my F-1 and walk around all day with it. Sure I missed some shots, but could save many in the darkroom.

Relax Tiger - it was an attempt at humour and to ensure no-one jumped on the bandwagon against you and derailed his very interesting idea - I think!!!

Well...I was shooting for Friday...but if you want to extend it a few days that's' up to you....I was just aiming to get folks to do more than snap a few shots in one day, call it good, and put their zoom back on.

I cant decide between using my 21mm F4, 15mm 4.5 or 35mm 1.4/2.8, so many decisions.
