Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra!
What a life you lead
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, Stop, Kookburra!
Save some drops for me.

Beautiful shot of the bird. The critter with him has seen better days :-D

This kookaburra was a regular visitor to our previous home and along with its family became quite tame. The victim here is a baby bandicoot (native marsupial) which was too big for the bird to eat. I actually witnessed its demise at the back of the garden - rather unpleasant.
For those that don't know a kookaburra is a large kingfisher; and do I mean LARGE. About as big as a small chicken with a powerful beak! This bird and its mate would swoop in from a tree and take a piece of meat from my hand without so much as touching me.
It did earn my ire once though when it swooped and nicked a sausage from my plate at a BBQ one day. It took its prize up onto a branch and proceeded to beat it to death as they are apt to do. Must have thought it was a huge worm or something!

Stunning! Simply stunning. I'm green with envy. :hunf:
Wow! Fantastic detail on this, I hope he enjoyed that tasty treat!
Get three or four of them on my neighbors hills hoist every arvo. Time to get the zoom lens out and shoot them from my back deck. Great shots Paul.

Nice photo and story. I'm afraid if one had taken my BBQ, he wouldn't have made it far. One just doesn't mess with a TEXAN'S BBQ. ;) Thanks for sharing.
