First Parish Church is located in Plymouth, MA. It was established by the Pilgrims and is the oldest church in America. The church was constructed by ship builders. You can see this in the ceiling. The ceiling is constructed like an upside down ship. Note there are no support columns anywhere in the church.

Many of the pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower are buried in the cemetery behind the church. The oldest graves had wooden headstones that deteriorated a long time ago.

John, lovely images of an amazing institution. Meaning no offience, I have to point out that the oldest church in "America," if defined as the USA, is actually the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico built by the Spanish in 1521. Destroyed by a hurricane, it was rebuilt in 1540. First Parish was constructed in 1636.

So, if you are ever in my neck of the woods the rum (i.e. Puerto Rican rum) and coke are on me. :D

No offense taken, Buffoto. I didn't know that and appreciate the information.

I used to be in your neck of the woods all the time before I retired. I covered the northeast. Some of the biggest and best meals I ever had were in Upstate NY. They really know how to eat well.

After all this time, I just noticed under your signature that your name is Maria. That was my Mom's middle name. From now on I'll address you by your proper name, Maria.

Thank you, pastagal. I love that old church and enjoying shooting it in the different seasons. I'll go back after Thanksgiving when they install and light their giant holiday tree.

For an old church, it sure is well preserved. Great shots! :)
