Tamron 18-270mm lens
Great results with my Nikon D200. Like others, I find a binding spot in the course of zooming. Feels like it's at a stop, but it's inherent resistance of some kind. Other than that zero complaints.
I've owned my Tamron 18-270 for two years and it's almost a permanent attachment on my Canon 50D. It's quite sharp throughout its range and is the best walk-around lens. The only small gripe is that Tamron should have provided detects for zooming as the lens will creep down unless held somewhat level. All in all, it's the only lens I use for travel and general purpose photos.
You won't be disappointed with its performance and great value for the price.

Mine stays on my Nikon D5000 nearly 100% of the time. The only problem I encounter is lens creep when shooting up or down. This is most noticable. When shooting upward with a long zoom. Borrowing or renting one for a few days is an excellent suggestion.

Oops, slight misspelling: meant to say DETENT with respect to zoom creep.

I agree. I have used this lens with excellent results. Creeping is annoying but only when I forget to lock the lens.
Thanks all for the triple thumbs up on the tamron 18-270mm lens. Will probably purchase it next month after paying off my canon t4i purchase. I presently have the canon 18-135mm lens which i use as a walkaround lens and like it very much . Use it about 90% of the time. Had i been able to afford the 18-270mm lens at the time of the t4i purchase this would have been my lens of choice. The images are very sharp(18-135mm lens),but i need something with a little more reach.
I hardly have any other lens on my camera. Unless I'm doing some shooting that I need another lens for I pretty much just leave it on the camera because it is so versatlil. I give it a five star rating.
I use the Tamron 18-270 on my old 50d, and now the new 7D. I just got home from vacation, and the Tamron took most of the photos (over 800) I've owned it for more than 2 years. It went soft, and was sent back to Tamron for test, calibration, and repair. One of the lenses best feature is the 6 year warranty.
Is this the first time the lens went soft on you. And did tamron correct this situation for you pretty promptly.

My Tamron 18-270 has been quite soft at distance since the day I bought it 3 years ago. I originally put it on a Nikon D5100, and then on my Nikon D7000. I thought the cameras had a slight focusing problem until buying a refurbished Nikon 70-300 VR lens. With the 70-300 lens I'm taking by far the sharpest pictures ever on the D7000. Will take your advise of sending it back to Tamron. Thanks.
I have used the Tamron 18-270 for years and it is my go to walkin' around lens. It is about the most useful lens I have ever owned.
I have used the original Tamron 18-270 for a number of years as a walk-about lens, both at home and on safari. Whilst it is not quite as sharp as the Canon 100-400mm it is a great lens.
Recent report says that the new Sigma super-zoom may have an edge but I doubt there is much in it.
I use mine all the time when looking to go light. Sharpness varies a fair bit throughout it's zoom strange, some areas very sharp and others not so much. There is some trade off having that large range but if you know it's limits and realize it is not L lens quality you will be happy with this lens. I also have the Sigma 18-250 and it is very similar in performance. That usually stays on my wife's T3i,
I have 6 lenses and use the Tamron 18-270 most of the time when I travel. It can be used for a lot of situations and is easy to carry.
In the view finder, I checked the 270 zoom against a Canon 55-250 zoomed at 250 and found that the 250 gave a closer picture. I haven't tried an actual shot yet but plan to try it the next time I have a chance.
