I am looking into the tamron 18-270mm vc f3.5-6.3 PZD lens. For those using it, how does it perform? sharpness of pictures at long end, focus time and how does tamron"s PZD perform? Have a few members in my camera club who use it and like it,especially like its light weight for a zoom. (about 16 oz) Thanks!!
I own it, and it stays on my camera 90% of the time. Sharp pictures, focus time not too bad. I love it.
Musket is absolutely correct.
Nothing beats personally trying out a lens to determine if it meets your expectations. If other members already have that lens, talk to them about borrowing it. When you borrow it, run it through every conceivable test you can think of that may be important to you - focusing performance, handling, sharpness, degree of lens and chromatic distortion, etc.
will follow all your advice and test it out first. Seems like a great price and lens.
wtomkins and what other lens do you use the other 10% of the time and why?

If you want a lens that looses all the light this one does, buy it.

If it's such a terrible lens why don't we see you recommending a alternate lens that you think is so much better.
Mine did a great job for me 2 weeks back at the outdoor airshow and taking photos inside the aircraft for cockpit shots.
I would image she uses a wide angle for landscape. She has some kick ass shots on her web site. Looks like mostly outdoor shots.
They don't make a 18-270 to fit my Pentax,so have the 18-200,stays on the camera 98% of the time, very happy with it.

This is the only lens I take when I travel. It is light, the optics are great and the current model has a reasonably fast focus. The tradeoff is that you sacrifice light at the high end. I could take several of my Canon lenses with me and the focus on them is much faster than the Tamron. However, the reduction in weight and bulk is well worth the tradeoff. If you want aperature throughout the range you should buy an L series lens. However, I think you will be pleased with the performance and advantages of a lens like this if you want to travel light. This is my travel lens and I very happy with it.

Pentax does now make an 18-270 mm lens. It's relatively new.
