This horse didn't bite you he probably nibbled at your hand with his lips. If a horse bites you with the strength they have in there jaw at minimum you would be in for stitches. Nice picture now go visit some horses with there owner and learn about them so you can continue to photo them and enjoy being around them as they are so relaxing to be with.
That would be considered a vicious bite, our friend only thought the fingers were carrots and did use his teeth; it hurts, but not damaging. Horses are amazingly gentle creatures. The horse was probably as surprised as John, saying "I didn't do it, nobody saw me, can't prove anything!" After all he WAS at the other end of the corral.

If that was a nibble, Flipper, he certainly has strong lips. My hand is bruised and swollen. I have no real issue with horses. I used to ride when I was young. I just wasn't prepared for what transpired with this horse. I also recognize the mistake I made extending my hand to a strange animal.

You are too funny,...again!!
I've never heard of a horse eating a reptile, must have been starving!!!! or really mad at you!!!
The story of the horse eating a reptile wasn't mine.
[quote=John Lawrence]I've been looking at all the beautiful shots of horses on here and was inspired to give it a try. I went to a local stable and asked permission. He told me I could take a few shots of the horses outside but not to disturb them.
I walked over to the corral and this beautiful brown horse came walking right over. I know the first rule in portraits is to relax your model so I put my hand out. He sniffed my empty hand and then bit me.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the owner heard me yelling and came running over. I told him what happened and he threw me out for upsetting the horse. Now I know why there aren't any cowboys in New England.[/quote
Now that's funny. Thanks for sharing it with us.

You're welcome, lilac. My wife and the horse are still laughing too.

Now you tell me. I just thought he came over for me to scratch his head. Big mistake.

That is a good story! Better luck next time.
Relax, city boy; you just had your first lesson in Horse Sense - remember it.
Above all you got the shot that you went after.
