Was wondering, where i could go to learn about wide angle lenses.

IF you have a cropped sensor, I recommend the Sigma 8-16 wide angle lens. That will be 12.8mm-25.6mm/ 35 mm equivalent. I am using that lens on my Canon rebel T3i and it has less distortion than my 16-35mm Canon L wide angle lens on the 5D mark II.
This Sigma lens will not take a screw on filter due to the bulge of the lens, but I have not found that a problem. The lens is moderately priced, and I can recommend it very highly. elderjim

18-55MM, IS NOT A WIDE ANGLE LENS, WHEN YOU CONSIDER CROP FACTOR OF 1.6 ON CANON OR 1.5 ON NIKON, MAKING THESE ABOUT 28MM ON CANON OR 27MM ON NIKON. CONSIDER INSTEAD ANYTHING AROUND 10MM OR 12MM, STARTING POINT.

The 18-55mm lens is a 18mm wide angle lens.. It is a EF-S lens, and specifically designed for the body it is on.. Granted, 18mm isn't the widest lens out there, but isn't a bad starting point..

Now if it was an EF lens, we would be talking about the 1.6 factor being in play....

The 17-55 is going to be a chuck of change, but worth it. I love mine. The 2 lenses I use the most are the 17-55 and my 28-300.
Both are Nikon lenses though, so they were pricy. :(
!7-55 $1200
28-300 $900
JUST DON'T TELL THE WIFE, IT WORKS FOR ME :)
Someone on another site always says: I hope my wife doesn't sell all my gear for what I told her I payed for it when I die. :)

I agree with ERV, The Nikon 17-55 is an excellent lens. Another choice is the Tamron 17-50 2.8. That lens has taken over and lives on my camera. I have the older model without VR, much lighter and a bit smaller than the Nikon, tack on with sharpness and crispness as the Nikon was. I was very lucky to get a good Tamron copy from the beginning. Go to a good camera store and talk with them, and compare what feels good to you and the quality of pics you get. They might even rent/loan you a couple of lens to try for a few days days. Good luck.

My wife bought me a bunch of lenses not knowing what she was getting.None of them fit not sure how much she paid for them. but also have to maybe find a place where i could trade them for a wide angle or sell them.Jusr collecting dust on the box here don't know if their just junk either theirs a samigon 2.0 X video telephoto high resoulution AF,Kenloc-Mc-tor1;4.5 80- 200, kenloc1;2.8 135mm, kenlock1;2.8 35mm i beleive their for a film not digital Don't fit my camera anyway wrong mount

I looked up a few of the lenses your wife got you. There are a few sites out there you should look into. Just Google Kenlock. You might be able to sell them on ebay and get a little of your money back.

Kenmore camera, is my good camera shop to go to in the area. In fact i bought my cannon from them.Alot of people go to BH.They were pretty compettive in prices,I believe in some places, that all should support their local shops as what happens when they all close thier doors ? and we all just have to buy off the internet. I will check with them on usage or trying out their lenses. So far I am looking at the Cannon or Tamron. It's still going to be awhile till the lense is purchased. So My Research goes on .thanks for your input on my adventure.

you still have to factor in 1.6 (canon) or 1.5 (nikon) no matter what lens you put on a crop factor camera....so 18-55 is actual point of view is on a 1.6= 28.8-88 on 1.5=27-82.5....why people think that an aps-c type lenses are actualy 18-55 is false...

EDITED POST:

Interesting, and I stand corrected....

Even EF-S lenses, with the mount shifted, is affected by the 1.6 multiplier..
It was just pointed out to me, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM PER THE CANON WEBSITE, has an "Equivalent to a 16-35mm zoom" line posted right on the site...

Just confirms it to me, I'll never buy an EF-S lens again, because I know in the future I'll get a full frame sensor body....
