There are many reasons to avoid Starbucks and this is one of them.
I have frequently visited Seattle, whelping place of Starbucks. Many people there consider Starbucks' coffee second-rate, and Starbucks' prices larceny.

I'll admit that criminals ain't too smart, but do you not think they are stupid enough to do something illegal while showing everyone their gun? I don't know where you live. Maybe you're surrounded by idiots.
Like I said... some of these folks are scary without guns. Then, add in the guns and I start to get nervous. And, I'm not talking about criminals...

Rich Maher,
please take your extender out of your ear and put it where the sun don't shine!
My liberal friends don't simply disagree with this guy, they HATE him. Personally, I'd love to have him as my next door neighbor. I routinely open carry in National Parks. Never had the slightest problem. Met a lot of great folks as the Kimber gets convos started. =)
Now this is some kind of "Stupid" - Joe the store owner from down the street has a CCW permit and is on his way back to the store from a trip to the bank and wants a cup of coffee from the local Starbucks - does it make any sense at all for him to take off his sidearm lock it in a gun safe in the back of his car before going in for his coffee - he is not going to be searched at the door so just like this off duty police officer.

So within 24 hrs of Starbucks announcing a ban on firearms inside its' businesses, an armed man walks into one of their stores in Henderson, NV and tries to rob the store and patrons. This crime was thwarted by an armed off-duty police officer who was in the store.
How do you suppose being robbed made the children feel about their "safe" experience. (Sorry for the sarcasm but this was the reason cited by Starbucks CEO for the weapons ban)

I live in Illinois where we have finally got the State to start the process of conceal carry. I took the Utah conceal class 2 years ago even though it was not recognized in my State, I took it for my own interest in the law and the liability and responsibility of having a firearm. I do not own a handgun that would be used for conceal carry, I own a Hi-Point 45 acp. Very big and heavy but perfect for home/personal defense. When the Illinois State Police have the requirements established for conceal carry, I will take that class and will at that time get a handgun for that purpose.
I believe in firearm ownership, from handguns to military style rifles. As it is stated " that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;"
if its concealed whos gonna know unless your bragging about it

Personally, i see no problem with wearing a handgun...It is a great deterrent to someone coming in and robbing a store, when he knows there are 20 people in the store also packing a gun. You will find that the law-abiding citizen will never brandish his weapon. Its just there. But without it, a so-called robber would put everyone in danger...one false move on a patrons part would send that robber into a firing spree. My opinion.....
Rich
if you buy a gun for concealed, buy a good one, not a hi point
Hahaha! :-D It's so much fun knowing this topic always gets to the wee island folk. You know, the former males who allowed their government to emasculate them for the good of the state? Got a feeling the family of the lad murdered in broad daylight on a London street by a couple of muslims wished SOMEONE had a firearm on scene, huh? Can you guess the life expectancy of any islamists trying that here in Texas? Go on, guess! Lol! I know at least some of the lil island ppl had manhood and courage at one time (just watched a documentary film of their contributions during WWII). What happened? A massive outbreak of genital necrotizing fasciitis which sadly and mysteriously manifests itself only on tiny specks of land of the former great British Empire? Perhaps you really should shush and go back to playing with the sad little air guns your government allows you and let the grownups who are skilled with, and not frightened by, real firearms carry on their chat, hmm? How awful to have to look to your nanny state to protect and coddle you!! Even casual observation strongly suggests your elected representatives are fully as inept as ours. Cheers!
A good guy with any gun is better than a good guy without same in the right circumstance. Danged gun snob...Lol!
No Sir what I meant is that it was posted on September the 20th 2013. I never checked for the actual date of the article, and the body of the story didn't mention the date I assumed it was a current event.
It's insightful to back off a bit and learn from the Israeli experience in the last few decades.
1. Open carry. Wherever you go in Israel you are likely to run into soldiers on leave. And the soldiers, men and women, schlep their rifles with them. Typically M4 (essentially a modernized M-16). But recently you see the Israeli "Tavor" bullpup style rifle. An excellent deterrent to crime and terrorism and sometimes there to stop an attack.
2. Open and concealed carry of pistols. The Israelis have a program where teachers and other school personnel can get a CCW. The training is thorough and superb. I'm not sure about the technicalities of "open" and "concealed" in Israel. I noticed when I saw school groups on field trips, some of the adults did not hide the pistols carried typically in simple holsters on the belt strong side. Everyone considers this sort of thing normal, and frankly to me, reassuring.
3. Open and concealed carry of pistols. Other civilians can also apply for a pistol carry permit. The training, as with teachers, is thorough and superb. There have been a number of attempted terrorist attacks which were cut short by armed civilians, both school personnel and other civilians.
Being surrounded by maniac nations which regularly launch wars of extermination...not to mention terrorism...the Israelis have become very pragmatic and realistic about armed civilians as a deterrent to terrorism and other crimes of violence. It would be foolish not to learn from their painful experiences.
And as for coffee, it is common to see both soldiers and armed civilians of both sexes at coffee shops. No one minds, sensible people appreciate the added security. And BTW, Israeli coffee is superb.
