Actually I wonder if I could use that serial number for CC? Probably not since it's not registered under my name, though.

Yes, that's going to be the problem if there is one, not registered under your own name. You could try, I suppose - all Adobe can say is 'no'!

It is probably too late now but you should have returned it. I buy on ebay on a regular basis but it is buyer beware. I too purchased photoshop on Ebay only to find out that they were trying to sell me a pirated copy.
I said no way and my money was refunded.
