Adobe Creative Cloud for Photographers

I see Adobe have just announced a new Creative Cloud package aimed at photographers for $9.99 a month. Only snag is that you have to own CS3 or a later version to get it. It includes both Photoshop and Lightroom but not the other main programs of the Cloud.

I had been balking at going with the Cloud up until now, but I'll probably go for this.

I understand that the lower price is good for one year only. Am I mistaken? I would like to be wrong.

Apparently you have until the end of this year to take up this offer (which isn't even live yet), but if you do, it's a permanent rate of $9.99/month. That is, this is not an introductory or one year only offer.

At least that's what we're told now.

Thanks, I really hope you are right.

Me too. I own Photoshop CS6 but I haven't upgraded my Lightroom since Lightroom 3 and I would really like to do that and this would be a reasonable ($120/year) way of doing so as well as getting the latest Photoshop enhancements.

I think it will go up to $19.99 after one year. But that is still a good deal. If you go for it, please ask the telesales person about this. If you have a link I'd love to check this out.

They say that the price is permanent. But, maybe if everyone holds out their CC experiment will collapse and they'll return to the former method.

There's one other issue to think about that also has me angry. Lightroom 5 is only compatible with Windows 7 and higher. Version 4 required Vista or higher. So are Adobe and Microsoft now pulling coins from the same purse?

Remember that Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) is supposed to be the same in both platforms, so why the divergence between the two programs.

Personally I'd rather pay $199.00 to upgrade and have a disc than use the cloud which accesses your system whether your using an Adobe program or not.

The site clearly states this isn't an introductory offer. This is the price if you sign up by Dec 31,2013. My question is how do you sign up?

I sure like the updated PS and LR, altho' I only did an upgrade to PS & Bridge shortly after it became available last June. LR was a "boxed" copy. If you use PS and LR a lot like I do, I would think you'd like the updates in processing. Can't say I'm happy with the new pay as you go type system, but do like the processing improvements.

The $9.99 price is for the current programs on the Cloud. When Adobe launches Lightroom 6 on the Cloud, will the monthly price go up?

I just visited Adobe I saw that the price is $19.99 a month. I did not see anything for $9.99 a month. http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/photography.edu.html.

I am not sure how this subscription thing works but I think you need access to the internet. Most photographer travel as I do this could be a problems. Some resort only offer internet access for a price ($9.95 for 24 hrs or $19.95) this is the same for most airports, hotels in Los Vegas, and traveling on a plane. Some motels/hotels offer limited or no internet at all. I see a very big problem for photographers who travels or visit relatives or friend who do not have access to internet or WiFi is not configured correctly.

You do not need the Internet to use the programs. You download the complete programs. They are resident on your computer. So there is no problem there. The only thing is that your computer must be connected once a month (I've also heard once every 90 days for some pay options) so that Adobe can certify that your subscription is current.

This is one of the huge misconceptions about the new Cloud subscription concept.

I also have CS6 and LR 3 and have not seen the need to upgrade to the Cloud at the previous prices, but now that they've sweetened the deal, I think I'll go for it when it becomes available.

As I said earlier, the offer is not live yet. It's supposed to be going online when Lightroom 5.2 comes out in a couple of weeks or so. Check out this link for details.
