I see Adobe have just announced a new Creative Cloud package aimed at photographers for $9.99 a month. Only snag is that you have to own CS3 or a later version to get it. It includes both Photoshop and Lightroom but not the other main programs of the Cloud.

I had been balking at going with the Cloud up until now, but I'll probably go for this.

This offer is now available here:

Does not appear to be available just yet: site is http://blogs.adobe.com/creativelayer/introducing-the-photoshop-photography-program. Then it says: This offer will be available the week of September 16th at the same time we introduce the new version of Lightroom 5.2 (which you can already get). At the top it then says: UPDATE: The Photoshop Photography Program is now available for purchase here. But, I actually got this when I clicked on it: "Internal Server Error." So, I can only guess they don't quite have it together yet.

Not sure if I have a "valid" CS5 serial number since I purchased it on Ebay. Anybody know How do I find out?

Most likely indeed. I have a suspicion their servers are overwhelmed. As I was putting up my post, I was downloading a trial version of Photoshop CC to see advantages what it had over CS6 and the download was glacially slow. Got it now though.

Did you register your copy of CS5 with Abobe? If so, you should have a serial number associated with your account. You can find it by logging on to your account profile.

Does anyone know if you will continue to get updates on store bought CS6 photoshop if not enrolled in the cloud program?

I don't think so, it all stops now unless you are part of the "cloud" approach. At least that's what I've read.

Of course you have a "valid" number. It got installed and you registered it with Adobe, right?

Where you purchased it makes no difference.

That's what I thought, too. I signed on to the cloud program and joined last night. It asks for your registration number and then checks whatever to find out if you qualify, so I'd say just sign on and see what happens when it checks. It seems like they are having many problems with this package right now: I have not yet downloaded the new "cloud" Photoshop. One thing to note is that it's a whole new program: it does not replace your current program, which you can keep and go back to if you want to. I did download LR5.2 just this morning.

I joined last night and downloaded Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5.2 without a problem. I am a longtime Lightroom and Photoshop Elements user. I bought a Photoshop CS5 upgrade on Amazon for $195 and used that serial number to sign up for the $9.99 deal without a problem. I was never willing to pay $600 for photoshop as elements did what I needed. But now for $195 and $9.99 a month I am up and running on Photoshop cc.

After all of the recent grumbling about Photoshop Creative Cloud pricing, Adobe has finally listened to photographers and come up with a plan that gives us all reason to keep being creative! Yesterday at Photoshop World, Adobe announced a Creative Cloud membership plan designed exclusively for photographers and priced just right. Here's an excerpt from their press release:

"Since introducing Photoshop CC we’ve listened to feedback from a spectrum of our customers, from advanced professionals to casual enthusiasts. One common request was a solution specifically tailored for photographers. We listened and at Photoshop World we’re announcing a special offer for our loyal Photoshop customers. Beginning today, customers who own Photoshop CS3 or higher are eligible for a special Creative Cloud membership offer that includes all of the following for just $9.99/month (pricing varies outside of the US):

Photoshop CC
Lightroom 5
20 GB of online storage
Behance ProSite
Access to the online video tutorials in Creative Cloud

This is the ongoing price for anyone who signs up by December 31, 2013. So if you sign up in October 2013, then when you renew in October 2014, the price will still be $9.99 per month. We do not currently have any intention of raising this price."

Before the euphoria about Adobe gets to carried away. Yes, the renewed cost in 2014 will be $9.99 per month. But "we do not currently have any intention of raising this price" is a long way from saying we will never raise this price. You can bet your last dollar that sometime in the near future they will. You can also rest assured that they will come up with add-ons that will cost extra. Also, from what I read on this thread a newbie will have to buy the latest version and then pay a monthly fee to use it. They are not eligible for the $9.99 rate. Is this correct? Finally, if she is right Adobe will need access to your computer. Is this right? Think about it folks. Does the idea of cheap cable TV or satellite TV ring a bell.

You need to own Photoshop CS3 or later. It says on the site when you register that prices may change. You can go back to your CS program if you no longer want to be a member. You have a 30-day trial before the contract sets in, then are charged some portion of the contract if you cancel after that. There are other programs to use, it's a choice to be made by the individual: Adobe is forcing no one to join. I like the online storage as an added bonus, and it alone is probably worth the $120 a year. Every program you download just about has access to your computer, that's how they upload to you the latest version of software. It's all about choice.
