Hey guys I am 86. I have a Nikon d300 but am lusting for a d800e. I have a pretty grotty left knee, wonky heart though it seems to be keeping good shape under the 8 pills I take. If I kick the bucket soon all that cash in the sink. Any thoughts on what I should do ?

Go for the gusto, soli, that's what I'm doing :-)

Just make it clear who will inherit the camera! Spend the dough, enjoy the equipment, and leave someone a nice camera filled with your memories.

Another thought for you. Doing things you enjoy and having things you want may help you live to see your D800 become a dinosaur.

Go for it! Today. The photos you take may well be precious and special treasures for those 'who knew you when'.

You can't take the cash or the camera with you. Get the camera!

I have a great story some where in my files which covers this perfectly, it is title " If I Could Live My Life Over" is covers all that has been mentioned such as: i would have taken that trip, bought that item I "wanted but didn't need", been more kind to my fellows, --and on to many other things.
I am 76 - been retired for 14 yrs - I am in good health but my wife has been physically disabled/handicapped, progressively more so for 20 yrs . We don't regret one moment of the bits of pleasure we have brought ourselves and each other over the past years after the last child left home.
In the past year I have acquired that decent DSLR kit I have wanted for the past 20+ yrs.

I have repeatedly told my kids that if I leave them more than a subway token, it meant I was trying to get someplace and didn't make it. You earned it, now spend it.

Whoever inherits your D800 (if you go for it) can always sell it for the cash if that is what they wish to do. You go for it and enjoy it to the full.

Spend the money before you die. Enjoy. That's what I told my father. Before he died he told me he had 25k in trust for each of his five kids. I said to my father to forget it and spend the money. I'm glad I told him to do that because he played golf, bought things like motor scooters, riding mowers, ham radio equipment etc. and still left each kid 5k. God bless his heart. I miss him dearly.

Since I'm not in your will, I'm not even a contender, here is my little bit of advise, buy the camera, then book a cruise on singles cruise and enjoy it. If you don't then shame on you.

I agree with Bill.....life is too short and you can't take anything with you when you are gone.

You make the photograph - take the money and go where ever it is that you want to get that bucket list image.
