I have always been of the opinion that if you are really going to use something a lot, buy something of quality that will last a long time. It winds up being much cheaper in the end than buying many less expensive models.

You can tell from my avatar that I use one. I bought an original Banna Republic photojournalists vest in the early70's and it served me well until about 8 years ago. Then I saw what looked like an exact copy of it at a gun show here in Tampa, for $35, so I bought it and it's held up fine.

If you have a Gander Mountain or Cabella's close to you, it would be worth your while to go in and checkout their hunting vests. Many of these are very reasonably priced, loaded with pockets, and if you are at the store, you can try it on to make sure you get something that fits comfortable to you.
I use a fisherman's vest for airline travel, usually for all the "other" stuff so my entire carry-on can be devoted to camera/computer gear (but I keep one portable drive in it so my images are on my body). Since I'm short the longer photo vests make it difficult to wear when seated while the fisherman's vest is much shorter.
I just posted a photo and link to the vest I use. It is for sale on ebay. I can't say enough about how much I like wearing the best. The pockets are deep and lined for use with large lens. I carry lenses, water bottle, sun screen bug spray, pad of paper, pen. Extra batt, ext cards. cleaning cloth. snacks, glasses and still have room left. A 2nd bonus is that by wearing this you look like a pro even if your not. I showed up to local spint car races and the guy at the gate assumed I was supposed to be there and not only that but gave me a $50 pit pass. Five minutes later I was in the infield clicking away. HOpe this helps. I did see there were more then one on ebay so........

Yes, I definitle agree;everything that John Storrie is superb. Had a custom vest made for me about 2 1/2 yrs ago...
For many years I have has a Vestrap by Nikon photographer's vest. Buying it was a very smart move. In addition to the pockets of various sizes, it is stitched in such a way so that the eight of the camera is on your shoulders not on your neck. Also I have a Tiley jacket, but for photographic work, I really prefer my Nikon vest.
That's pretty much identical to one I bought in an army surplus store some years ago. I love it too.
At that price I would expect that they are very high quality vests. But I'll go for the $20 fishermans vest. It's seems like as soon as you say something is specifically for photography the price skyrockets. Kind of like aviation products.

Mine isn't big enough to carry large lenses but I can carry lots of small accessories. All I did was buy a fisherman's vest... for it works very well.
