I'm comparing apples to a different variety of apples, but I use after market batteries for my Nikons and they all work well. I figure if they die out in only half the time of my regular Nikon batteries, then I'm still ahead when I have to order more because they are quite a bit less than the Nikon originals.

A month or so ago Adorama had a sale and I ordered 2 replacement batteries for my Sony A550 and A77 (both use the same batteries). I have noticed that the batteries quickly lose their charge (I have both Sony and Maxell batteries) even when the cameras are sitting idle. So extras couldn't hurt. They were under the "Flashpoint" name which I believe is Adorama's proprietary brand name. At $8 a piece how could I go wrong. Of course they were not in stock and I got regular reminders to buy something else. I finally got a notice today that my batteries are on the way. This is the long way of asking if anyone has had any experience with Flashpoint batteries or any non-OEM brands.

Since 1998 I have never found a third party battery that is equivalent in charge life to the stock (OEM) factory batteries that come with the cameras. The ones that claimed LONGER than OEM life ended up being shorter life than OEM. Some lose their charge quickly, not slowly, while in the camera bag under no load. Some run half as long as the OEM battery while supposedly equivelent. Some get "memory" as though they are Ni-Cad even though they are claimed to be Lithium-Ion. Some last a few months and then refuse to charge at all. All disappointments but I've tried numerous times.

There are also batteries being sold on eBay that claim to be the real OEM batteries with the company name and model number right on the battery itself but I suspect these are factory rejects that somebody slipped out the back door because those I've purchased also weren't up to par.

One I bought on eBay and have currently will overheat my Sony Alpha 55 when it's sitting idling while my factory OEM battery does not - yet it says Sony and the correct model number right on it. I bought (3) Panasonic Lumix batteries on eBay about a year ago that were in sealed factory packages for pegboard display and one out of the three was DOA. The supplier replaced it but why would a OEM factory battery be DOA out of the package?

$8 for a battery for an A77? Sony sells their's for 10X that amount? I'll stick with OEM batteries from now on thank you.

I have used non-brand batteries for a while with no problem at all. They last the same and when they die or lost, no problem at all. I purchased batteries from ADORAMA "Flashpoint" the price was like getting them for nothing compared to the Canon prices. Canon $50.00 Flashpoint on sale $8.00, not a real mind tester for sure. I have the Rebel 1100D T3

Seems there is a culture in UHH that demands over charging. If they are not bragging about how much they paid for something then they are not happy. I know this is gonna twist their tail---I even got free freight on my 3 $2.00 batteries.

I have both oem and non-brand batteries. The oem's are better but they are also absurdly expensive. I figure the non-brands run about 75% to OEM which based on cost seems to me to be a good reason for buying the off-brand. Just my 2 cents.

I have a Sony A55, Sony Nex-6 and a Sony NEX-5n. They all use the same battery. I tried some generic batteries and had problems. I now use Wasabi batteries bought on Amazon. These work great, and are about one third the price of Sony batteries.

Just because you pay a lot it doesn't meant that you are getting your monies worth. If you want to pay the high price for batteries and you are happy I say go for it. Myself, nothing wrong with non-name batteries. Work just as good and if not who cares, shit can it and use the next one. Still cheaper than buying the high price spread!

Ditto: have bought and still use generic batteries they are a lot less expensive and seem to work just as well. It's easy to change a battery and harder to pay 65 bucks or more for the brand name.

I'll also throw in a good word for Wasabi batteries. I've used them in 3 cameras (currently a Nikon P7700) and have had no problems. They also have about 30% more capacity than the OEM batteries.
