I am looking to get a battery grip for my Canon xti. I cannot find any reviews on any of the sites I have found. Has anyone had any experience with the BG-E3 battery grip from Canon and are they really worth the money?m Or is it better just to have more batteries and change them when needed?
I like them for when I shoot verticals; it gives me a better grip.
does yours have the ability to hold 2 batteries for extended shooting time?
I know nothing about grips but when shopping around for batteries I came across an interesting note. It appears that at least some aftermarket batteries have the same serial number. Placing two of these batteries was reported to be problematic as it confused the camera. Again, no first hand knowledge, just thought I would pass along.
I have the BG-E8 for the T2i. It was an investment, but worth it to me. The Rebels feel kinda small in my hand, and this really helps. If you have any large lenses, it does a great deal for balance, handheld or on a tripod. Easier to shoot vertical. My T2i seems to take forever to loose battery power with the 2 batteries. It's also nice to have the second cartridge for AA batteries. After 8 hours in the woods, my batteries finally died, and I just slipped in the AA cartridge and they got me through the rest of the day. The original batteries lasted longer than 8 hours, because they were not totally fresh when I went into the woods. All depends on your needs.
thanks everyone for your information and opinions. sounds like it's time to find one and buy it.

I've had the Canon grips on both the Rebel and now the 50D. Lots of battery capacity, duplicated controls for vertical frame shooting and it adds a bit of heft to the camera which can held to stabilize it to some extent -- of course you have to carry the extra weight as well.

Yes it does. I find that I need to take them out when not in use, for some reason if I leave them in the grip, it will suck the power out of them.

You might want to have that looked at. Shouldn't be a drain on the batteries. Is it a Canon grip?
I purchased the Canon battery grip initially with a previous Canon camera but, then I found a less expensive aftermarket brand Zeikos. I read their reviews and was content with my purchase.
battery grips are awesome..i have them on my 7d,5d, and t1i. i have canon grips on the 5d and 7d and a $50 opteka grip on the t1i. the opteka works as well as the canon grips.
I have used the Vivitar battery grip for my Canon 7D for about 5,000 pics so far.
It works fine and was about $70 at B & H
The similar Canon mount was about $200
The 2 batteries do not seem to discharge and last over 1,000 pics per charge.

Make sure you have the switch on the grip OFF when you store the the camera. Just turning off the cameras switch to off does not effect the grips off status.

I have two Canon Rebels and have a two battery grip on the older one, and a rechargable one on the newer one. I like both because they give me a firmer grip on the camera - and a little weight for stability. With both cameras I also carry an extra charged battery to replace the grip if it runs low on charge. My charger also has a cigarette lighter adapter to use it in the car in order to charge individual batteries. I bought both of my battery pack grips on Amazon because they are so much cheaper than a camera store and I have never had a problem with any of them - got extra batteries there too/
