i need a new printer. what is a good printer for home processing of color shots? I've been using a HP.

Color shots 2'x3' or 8"x10"??? How often?? Price range?? Scan and Fax needed?????? Specify your details otherwise you have not really asked for good advice. :?: :idea: :XD:

Yep, My low cost all in one work horse that I bought July 2010 is still working with CIS and prints great. Open box $25, CIF at that time $25 prefilled with 100ml of ink... on my 3 refill and soon wil start a 4th. That is about $2000 savings compared to OEM Epson ink. Pluggage of about 6 times,, alcohol took care of that... pluggage from going a month without printing.
Again the OP needs to say how many of those 8' x 12' wall murals they want to print!!! each week and if it is on fabric. We need a basis for OP needs.

I've used all the makes over the years.
I currently have a Canon and, in my opinion, it's head and shoulders above all the others I've used. I'm very impressed. It's well built and operates easily without any problems.
My last two were Epson but it was touch and go whether it would accept non manufacturer cartridges and sometimes, even work at all. In the end I had to bin it as I just couldn't get it printing properly.
Canon all the way for me now. Smooth!

I have always used an Epson and the prints are quite good. The only problem are the heads always seem to clog and it uses a lot of ink to unclog. I have thought about the Cannon and perhaps I will try one in the future. Both Epson and Cannon get good reviews.

I went thru 2 Artisan 800's in 3 years. When the second died I switched to Canon

It obviously matters which one. I have a small epson air printer to print correspondence from phone, ipad, Mac book but print on an epson 3880. Your decision should be driven by budget, size of media, types of media, consumable costs, types of ink, need for roll paper etc. epson and cannon both make fine printers.
