As with cameras an other gear you'll get many recommendations, most based on personal experience and preference.
I've had excellent results from my Pixma products and I wouldn't buy anything but Canon

Go to the Red River Paper web site. Lots of info on the true costs of printing, have tested all the popular photo printers and what it costs to print. I personally will never buy anything other than Epson again. Then decide if you want pigment or dye inks, I only use pigment inks as I sell prints. Good luck.

Ditto on the Canon. My HP 210 just died, and I replaced it with a Canon MG5420, and the difference is so good, I think I've gone to heaven!
