So you would have no trouble making fun of someone with, say, Down Syndrome, or with a cleft palate? Just because someone says it's a joke doesn't mean it doesn't hurt someone.

Lighten up ! I know an AMAZINGLY funny joke about someone with a cleft palate, but I won't burden you with that. I am sorry if you find the humour heavy to swallow. We have blond jokes, Irish jokes , Rastus jokes...what is your problem ? It's not like we are attacking anyone.

Yes it is. It is EXACTLY like you are attacking someone, but justifying it by claiming it's a joke. Next time you see a parent with a child who has a cleft palate, go up and tell them your joke and see if they think it's funny. But if they get upset, make sure you tell them to lighten up, it was just a joke.
