Ahh, the posts did cross.
I have the Sony A77, love the EVF, always said I wouldn't own a EVF, would never go back to an ovf. I know exactly what the picture is going to be before taking the picture
WAIT,WAIT,WAIT don't buy yet wait till at least Oct. and see what the new line up is. Totally new camera's coming out.

Nice. I've never seen the Red Arrows, but this is one of my T-Birds shot from last year.
Slightly different crop/treatment of a former avatar of mine. I also have Blue Angels shots, too.

Planepics, if your Avatar tells me anything it's that you like shooting big 'birds' in flight.
Forget the Nex-7, it's a great camera but no substitute for the a77 or a99.
Being somewhat self indulgent I have all three, oh yes and an a900.
The a77 does a great job, as does the a900 so I guess it comes down to what lenses you own and what reach you need.
Can you re-post the Vulcan shot and store original? I'd like to see how good the detail is (looks good as it is).

I have had my obsolete A330 since Black Friday 2009 and have been happy with it, or the most part. Some of my pics have done fairly well in contests, but I have been having issues recently with such things as the first shutter actuation not taking and an occasional malfunction message. I really want better ISO performance, more MPs and faster shutter speeds (fps). Video would be nice to have. I have never bought any used electronics, but might consider it. Just for fun I looked up used full-frame bodies and know I could get one for about the cost of a new crop body. The A77 (new) looks nice, as does the A850 (used).

You can not go wrong with the A77 (I have two). You can take videos with it if you want.Action pictures are easy.Live view is always available .I love the panorama option. If you use raw the
the file is large so you can crop half and still get a good size image

The original is a pst but I've done some 100% crops.

If you can hold off for just a few hours. Sony will be announcing a new entry level camera August 27, 2013. More will be announced over the next few months.
Hi Dave,
I think the new camera is an E-mount camera unfortunately.
Sort of a NEX on steroids.
I have several Sony camera's and lots of lenses both A mount and E mount. I have the Sony Nex-6 and that is my primary camera. When I want to use an A-mount lens on this camera I use the Sony EA-2 adapter. This adapter gives you full auto-focus and all the auto-exposure modes. The one and only thing that is missing is OSS optical stabilization. This is because in the A mount DSLR's the stabilization is built into the body, but in NEX mirrorless cameras it is built into the E-mount lenses. For those cases when I want to use an A mount lens with OSS I purchased a used Sony A55 on ebay for $265. Now I can travel small and light with my NEX system, but for those areas like long telephoto where I need to use A mount lenses with OSS I go with the A55.
Of the current Sony models consider starting with NEX 3N for E-Mount or if you want A mount consider the A58. Both are reasonably priced entry level models.
To build your lens collection look to Ebay for Minolta lenses. Many great lenses are available at great prices. Minolta lenses work on the Sony A mount cameras without an adapter or on the NEX cameras with the Sony adapter listed above.
As to the person that said to look at Canon or Nikon I would say that both companies make great cameras. But as a former Nikon owner I have completely converted to Sony and am very happy.

Hi Pete,
If it includes IBIS, NEX on steroids might not be a bad thing. As Steve points out you can use the adapter and keep a foot in the E mount and alpha worlds.
As for me I'm holding off for FF.
I think the term "IBIS" is kind of comic. A kind of an Ebonics paraphrase of René Descartes "I think, therefor I am."
(It does not take much to amuse me.)
Planepics, here are some a99 pics for good measure.
The a99 is a bit pricey but a stunning piece of kit for all that.
EC135 - a99 * iso100 * f/7.1 * 1/400th [+0.7EV]
a99 * iso100 * f/4 * 1/640th [+1EV]
a380 * a99 * iso100 * f//4 * 1/500th [+0.7EV]
Some 100% unsharpened crops from the last image ...

Impressive, but in the States, the A99 is going for around $2,700 new (body only) from one New York superstore where I bought my Tamron lens and still over $2k used...that's more than I paid for a week-long Alaskan cruise. Too much for this part-time school bus driver to consider. I got this pic of Fat Albert in 2010 with my A330 and kit 75-300. I can only imagine what I could get with an A77 and my Tamron.

Wow!!!! Sony is going to need to come up with a heck of camera to beat that! I may be easily amused but hard to impress. I'm impressed!
