I have had my obsolete A330 since Black Friday 2009 and have been happy with it, or the most part. Some of my pics have done fairly well in contests, but I have been having issues recently with such things as the first shutter actuation not taking and an occasional malfunction message. I really want better ISO performance, more MPs and faster shutter speeds (fps). Video would be nice to have. I have never bought any used electronics, but might consider it. Just for fun I looked up used full-frame bodies and know I could get one for about the cost of a new crop body. The A77 (new) looks nice, as does the A850 (used).

Techradar.com. do a full Sony DSLR review
Hold on to the old girl if you can limp her along. Rumors are that Sony is leaning on going totally mirorless on their SLR lineup and dropping the translucent mirrors. They have developed autofocus on the sensor itself so mirrors are no longer needed anymore. There is a new Alpha 3000 available in Europe...with an improved EVF. There's some interesting things going on at Sony...I'm personally waiting to see what they come up with. Good luck with your search!

I do laugh 2009 obsolete come on
I haven't got the A77 but a friend of mine has and he is very pleased with the results.I have seen a photograph taken with the FPS on the a77 of a swallow coming in to grab mud for its nest each one was tack sharp.
Whenever you check Sony's new entrants, do not omit a look a Olympus' also new OMD that is expected for September next.
I have the A57 and I'm quite happy with it. So far it's handled anything I've wanted it to. The A77 is a pro quality body and has a couple of feature more and more MP. It's about $300 - $400 more than the 57 but you do get more. It seems there's some upgrades to the lineup in the works so you might be able to get the 77 at clearance prices. Up here the prices have dropped about a $100 or already.
Nex 7, but handle it first.

Right! Trey Radcliffe loves it. It replaced his D800.
I have the A65 and I feel it does everything I will ever need a camera to do for me
if you can do without video and live view, then a used a850 is a good bet.

To answer multiple posts at once, not necessarily in order;
Can you use Alpha lenses on a Nex?
Currently the lenses I have (besides the ones in my signature) are 3 manual Canon lenses from my AE-1P (2 primes and a zoom) with an adapter to use on my Sony. Since I just bought the Tamron in February, I want to stay with Sony.
I USUALLY don't use live view and I can do video with my phone or borrow a video camera (like I did when I went to Alaska, but I found that I took more stills by a wide margin).
I say that my camera is obsolete because it is no longer made, has about 1/2 of the MP of more modern cameras (has 10.1), doesn't do video (don't know how much I'd use it), I get substantially noticeable noise at anything more than ISO 400 (almost none of my pics I take in church for the photography ministry are usable) and it only shoot at a max of 2.5 fps (not optimum if one is trying to take pics of f-15s at mach .95, for example). It also malfunctions from time to time.
Souk, that pic is really soft.
I hope I didn't miss too many people..oh yeah, i hear that the A3000 is actually a Nex (e-mount)
Planepics, if your Avatar tells me anything it's that you like shooting big 'birds' in flight.
Forget the Nex-7, it's a great camera but no substitute for the a77 or a99.
Being somewhat self indulgent I have all three, oh yes and an a900.
The a77 does a great job, as does the a900 so I guess it comes down to what lenses you own and what reach you need.
Avro Vulcan - a77 * 300mm * iso100 * f4 * 1/800 (+1EV)
Red Arrows - a900 * 300mm * iso200 * f/5.6 * 1/500 (+1EV)
