I have been using it for about 6 months and love it. Sharpness and low light performance are great. Number of settings can be intimidating but over time becomes second nature. I agree with the prior comments posted by others.

Just wanted to see if anyone here uses this camera , and what they think about it as a all around camera for shooting photos . Close up , medium distance , far away shots , and long distance shots . Feel free to say what you like and don't like about this camera , and what you would recommend for accessories if any. THANK YOU ALL THAT REPLY

Thank you all that have posted your feelings on the 5D Mark III so far. As I posted above , I now use the Canon 7D , and have taken 1000's of photos . My family and friends have told me to send my photos to magazines etc. . But I tell them that they all have their own professionals . I'm sure you all hear the same thing from your family and friends. Money is no problem at this time . I have never used a full sensor camera yet , and I just wonder what I may be missing out on . I thought about renting one first for a weekend , and then I could compare it . I don't think the professional camera store in my area rents out , but I could double check with them . Other wards I would have to rent thru the internet ...It does sound like you all love your investment . Thanks , Tommy

If you have used a 35mm film camera you have used a full sensor camera.

I guess I did use a 35mm film camera back in the early 90's . It belonged to my brother inlaw . But I don't remember much about it , and the photos I took as a amateur weren't very sharp .

I've had it for about a year now. I use my 5d-11 as a backup. The level of noise is greatly reduced from my mark 2. The frames per second is faster. 2 mem cards at once is great. In camera HDR is great. Double exposure is great. Lens micro adj is great. The only thing I've had issue with it is tethering it to a computer. I think it's a driver thing. It uses the same batteries as the 5d-2 that saved me a lot of $$. The 61 point focus system is the same as the 1DX witch cost 6500.00. I got mine through some horse trading for $2500.00 new. I don't know if I would have paid $3500.00 retail for it. I love it and wouldn't trade for less then a 1DX. Ps. video is great to.

I agree with all the responses above. I own this as well as the 7D. You will be happy that they share quite a bit of the layout so the transition is pretty easy. Love, love the low light images with high iso and hardly any noise. Along with the best glass you can afford, you will be set.

This camera has been out for almost a year now and I don't think anyone has one yet.

Kidding!!!!!!!!! It's a great camera. I wish it would shoot 12 fps and have a 29 shot buffer. Other than that it's perfect. But for $3300 more ($6800 total) you can have the 1DX that does have a faster burst rate and larger buffer. But it only takes 18 megapixel images where the 5D III takes 22 megapixel images.

if I was to take a wild life photo using my 100-400mm L IS on the 5D mark III from a distance like I do a lot now with the 7D, then crop it to give it a zoomed in affect . Would it still have a sharper picture then the 7D with its 1.6x cropping ? If I read your reply correctly , I'm guessing not , since you said you use the 7D for far away wild life . Is this correct

I had the same question. I cropped an image taken with the 5D III and compared it with the same image from a 7D. The 5D III image was enough better that I considered selling the 7D. However, I have an offer for a 40D so will hang on to the 7D. To confirm the results of the comparison see: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/full-frame-advantage.htm.

If you are not independantly wealthy, but want to SELL your images and make money ( and you have the FF focal length lenses to use on it) ( and you CAN afford it ) GET the 5D ! OR, if you are independantly wealthy - get a Sony A99 with Zeiss lenses.

The original link had a period attached to it. The link should be:

Take out the period at the end of the sentence and try again.

thanks RJN for letting me know that I would still gain in photo quality with the 5D mark III after cropping . I have done a lot of reading today on this camera . I read it takes amazing video too if I suddenly came across a subject that making a video of would be nice to have to show friends . For an example , a cat playing with a mouse , etc. Just a thought .... After all the good things you all have posted , I don't think I would regret buying one . Glad I asked the question here. It was a tuff decision which to buy when I bought my Canon 7D 2 yrs ago I think . Now to find a fair price for the 5DMK III

I recently bought the 7D. Was put on a waiting list for the 5D III so paid full price when it came out. Its continuous shooting for sports or moving objects is plenty fast for me. I don't know why one needs more than about 8 fps. Good luck w/5D III.

I have been using one for over a year now and really like it for several reasons. One is color accuracy. When you are in live view, you can press the white balance button and are able to adjust and tweak the color using the Kelvin scale. I generally set Custom White balance first. Another thing is the abundance of focus modes, of which I probably only use 2. High ISO ranges are nice for star photos at night along with the high ISO noise reduction. It was great for the Perseide meteor shower. Not to belabor the point, it is a very good camera and is pretty rugged too. I can't really compare it to other brands because I have shot Canon since the days of the old Rebel 300. This is my first foray into the upper crust of Canon products and I am glad that I finally made the leap.
