Just wanted to see if anyone here uses this camera , and what they think about it as a all around camera for shooting photos . Close up , medium distance , far away shots , and long distance shots . Feel free to say what you like and don't like about this camera , and what you would recommend for accessories if any. THANK YOU ALL THAT REPLY

I am using this camera and loving it. It takes incredibly sharp pictures if you are using a sharp lens. It is a good all around camera suitable for almost any subject. The only caveat might be if you're shooting sports and need a very fast motor drive. Other than that you can't beat it.

I am still trying to get to grips with all the whistles and bells that the Mk III has on it. I certainly like mine, but it does get a bit heavy to carry if used for a long time (mainly used with 24 - 105L lens).

As for taking close-up, medium distance, far away shots is concerned, this very much depends on the quality of the glass you have. I try to buy the best I can afford, which if it means waiting to save the money then so be it. I try to buy L lenses.

As for accessories, a good tripod and head (or gimbal) is always a good buy. I have to say that I always put a sunlight or UV filter on my lenses as protection.

It's a great camera...I don't know anyone who'd not recommend it.

It may not suit your needs...cameras are personal, and needs are different.

I currently use a canon 7d with battery grip . Making the camera almost 6" sq. along with the canon 100-400mm L IS lens. I have many other lenses , a strong built tripod. So I don't mind the weight . I have carried this set up for hrs at a time , thru brush , etc . What ever it takes for me to get that special shot. So I don't think I would notice any difference carrying a 5D mark III

The only difference you'd notice would be in the quality of the photos. ;-)

Depends on the ISO setting. The higher the ISO setting the greater the difference. Even at low ISOs the Mark III will be sharper. I have and use them both, but since I got the Mark III, I usually use the 7D only when I need the 1.6 magnification factor, such as for wildlife.

My daughter mega-bucks has a 5D Mark III and she loves it. A great body by any measure. However, her more conservative father (me) bought a 6D (with Canon L 24-105mm) for much less buckeroos and it takes equally superb photos but does have a few less bells and whistles.
The 6D has a reduced body size from the 5DM3.

if I was to take a wild life photo using my 100-400mm L IS on the 5D mark III from a distance like I do a lot now with the 7D, then crop it to give it a zoomed in affect . Would it still have a sharper picture then the 7D with its 1.6x cropping ? If I read your reply correctly , I'm guessing not , since you said you use the 7D for far away wild life . Is this correct

I also have the Canon 5D3, and it's one hell of a camera, if anything happens to my camera, I will be straight out there buying a second one.
I use Hoodman 64Gb. 1000x CF Cards, for a fast responsive camera you will need a fast CF Card, if you are shooting RAW anything less than 32Gb is too small. It's like a machine gun to use, and the battery last forever, with my Canon 135mm lens I can get over 2500 shoots, it's not the battery that goes out, I often run out of memory, I have 96Gb in camera before I even need to look for a new card.
Canon has a GPS unit, that just works, just place it into the hot shoe mount and turn it on, and all the photos will be geotagged.
Really right stuff has some great stuff, worth taking a good look at!
Great monopods, and tripods plus L brackets..
Just over a month ago now I brought a Canon 500mm F4 ii lens and it has rained just about every day here in Perth Western Australia...
So when are you going to buy yours........

I have recently moved from the MkII to the MkIII and love it!! Images are sharp, beautifully processed (particularly skin tones) and it's generally a joy to use. I have not yet mastered all the bells and whistles (like in camera HDR for example) but the fundamentals are superb.

I am fortunate to own L series glass but I notice Ken Rockwell holds the view that even old lenses deliver great results on this body,

All the best with the decision making!!

This is a truly exceptional and versatile camera. However is is best for advanced amateurs and professionals - to get the best from it takes a bit of study and a lot of experience. Lesser cameras can take excellent photos, given that they have excellent glass.
Others before me have correctly said that if your dollars are limited, start first with top grade lenses.
Weight is only a mild limitation. The EOS 1 series were much bulkier and heavier to get what was then the best of available worlds.
