Lenny,
Have owned several Nikon cameras. Currently own D3100, D600, and D4. Sold a D700 and a D7000 when I bought the new ones. The menu and controls on the D600 are superb, the autofocus not so good, especially in low light and moving targets. Frankly I think I liked the overall performance of the D700 more than the D600, especially because I like low light work. Other than that, the U1 and U2 controls are a fantastic feature that I wish was on my D4. Hope that helps.

I have a Nikon D800 which has pretty well the same buttons as the D600. I've never accidentally pressed a button. And even if I were to accidentally press a button, odds are that nothing will happen.

I have a D3 too and it's the same thing, I've never pressed a button accidentally.

The cameras are designed to make it easy to make adjustments on the one hand, and also to prevent accidental triggering.

Also, remember the left hand is used to hold and control the lens. It's also used to control focus options and to turn on the flash. These controls are also well away from where you might accidentally press them.

Go for the D600. You'll love it and be happy you did.

Lenny, I can tell you this .... just go and get it and you will be happy. I have had it since it first came out and have had no issues at all except having to get used to such beautiful images. Such a problem to have.
When you properly hold the camera you will be no where near the buttons.
Just shoot and have fun

I've shoot over 6,000 frames with it in every light condition and climate and fine it to be a superb camera. If you practice the proper grip techniques that others have mentioned, you should never encounter any problem with accidentally depressing any of the buttons on the back of the camera.

I have been using Nikon DSLRs for quite a while, and have never heard of anyone pressing the buttons accidentally, while taking a photo. Suggest you stop worrying about such an event ..... relax.

Ditto, no problems and am pleased with the D600. Only accidental setting problems are of my own doing.

Guess I'm the only fumble fingers in the group but when I went to the D7000 I managed to turn it off frequently when trying to use the front dial. My D5100 didn't have a front dial.

For some reason I don't have that problem as much on my D800...maybe I've learned or maybe a slightly different layout. I do know I MUCH prefer the buttons on the D800 than on the D7000. I found the D7000 button layout a pain when coupled with the sometimes unreadable small green screen and useless info screen. I was used to doing all on the great info screen on the D5100 when I went to the D7000. I don't know if the D600 button layout is more like the D7000 or the D800. Alas I fear this is something you can only find out about by working with the camera for a while.

Get it Lenny. I bought mine the day the D600 was released. NEVER EVER had any issues with the buttons on the left of the screen or anywhere else for that matter. Completely unbelievable camera. The kit lens isn't bad either.

ENJOY!

I would say go for it!
I've personally never had an issue with accidentally hitting any of the buttons. 😊
