Amazing. Something more for me to try.

Did the subject know where the original picture was taken? The moods are so vastly different.

It appears the original was 24Mp and the final is about 4Mp but the cropped image is only about 10% of the original. Did you enlarge the crop (and how) to get the final.

yes...she did...I was sitting next to her and sent her both pictures.

I also did enlarge the jpg a bit in Perfect resize.

What a great job. Interesting what you can do with a seemingly simple picture

Could you give some details on the shot (camera, lens etc). I'd be amazed to be able to get that kind of sharpness in a cropped/enlarged shot. Maybe I've reached an age when I have to bite the bullet and upgrade to an image-stabilized camera/lens? A very nice piece of work!

No problem.

Probably quite a few camera/lens combos would do it. It's really not that sharp.

In my case it was the Sony RX1 which is a fixed 35mm f/2 camera with an amazing sensor.

You could do that with just about any good DSLR and good lens; like a 5D or 7D and a nice sharp 35mm f/2.

My last camera; the 5DIII with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 was just as sharp as my RX1; but lol...it cost a bit more...and is quite a bit larger and heavier.

I would have loved to see the subject's response if she just saw the finished product by itself before seeing the original. The second shows so much creativity and focus.

This thread is the very reason I have WAAAAAAYYYY to many saved images.
:>) You just never know what's hidden in the detritus of an otherwise wasted camera click.

We have a saying here that pretty much describes this situation.
Please excuse the language but you "made honey out of dogshit".

How far can you change reality when you post process?
Well...pretty far.
We had a hot dog lunch at work today and I snapped a few images.
I took one of the "non-keepers" to see what I could get out of it.
I cropped it pretty aggressively, changed the WB...dodged and burned out a few non-essential elements, and then put a few soft/glow filters on it.
It's not the best image I ever got...but it's amazing how far removed from reality it is...
