well I gave this info to the seller on ebay. They didn't know how to check the number of clicks on the camera and told me not to bid. I also tried one of them and it said my camera did not allow it or something like that??? Now what

If you have a Canon, you have to send them the camera to get a count - I think. Would you buy a used car if the owner did not know the mileage?

Some sellers will not give you a shutter count, for whatever reason, but it is easy to find on Nikons. Of course, there's more to a camera than the shutter count.

Keep looking.

i say, "DON'T BID" until you know exactly the shutter count!

Also, make sure the seller has lots of good photos of the camera. I would not bid on a body that is displayed without a body cap. That's just asking for dirt on the sensor.

I wanted the kit lens for a D70s, and I found it less expensive to buy the camera with the lens and then sell the camera. I wound up getting the standard D70s kit lens for about $60.

It is a nikon. I think you also have to use a raw photo to get the data from it on number of shutter clicks.

I think I can also use my photoshop software to do it

There are many free apps available to get shutter actuation counts, Opanda is one I have used. Ask seller to do get accurate count for you. While the D70 is not the best low light performer, it is a solid camera. As stated previously, you should be able to get a good used one for less than repair cost.
I have 2; one with 30,000 and one with 35,000, and both still work great.

Go to
http://www.camerashuttercount.com/
and paste a photo from the camera into the box. It doesn't have to be RAW. I've never tried it with RAW.

This will work, too.

Remember that everything in your camera is the same age, only the shutter gave out first. After you spend $300 fixing the shutter, you will still have an almost worn out camera with a nice new shutter. I wouldn't want to gamble the photos of my daughter's wedding on a worn out camera, regardless of how well the shutter works.

IR pictures and conversion are both news to me - found the link interesting. Now for probably what is a dumb question but.....are there any cameras that have both regular and IR picture-taking on the same camera? I'm thinking not.

I'm waiting anxiously for someone to respond with a make and model. You can, of course use an IR filter on a regular camera.

Thanks for the link on shutter count, my D70s has little over 10,000. I just purchased a refurbished D7000 and see that it has 1700 shots which are certain to be mine for the most part. As a note my refurbished D7000 works as advertised, it was all I could find avaible at the time.

I bought my D7000 refurbished from Cameta Camera, and when I got it I submitted a shot specifically for photo count, and it came back "2", and the second was the shot I sent in. I thought it looked totally new when I got it, only the plastic wrapper on the body had been opened, everything else was sealed.

DO NOT DO EBAY their prices are too high especially the buy it now part. even the auctions are getting too high. the era of ebay being a bargin hunters paradise was over when retail businesses got into it. When i bought my d-100 i spent literaly days compareing prices on nikon equipment. I checked ebay, amazon, used camera bureau, adorama, b+hphoto and kEH.com The far lowest prices were at KEH. (I just picked up a N-90s for 10 bucks.) At one time it was only second to the F4 in Nikon's lineup. Plus all used equipment goes out with a FREE 6 MONTH WARRANTY. In addition they are serious camera experts and if you email and ask they probably could tell you the shutter count on any camera you get. If your nikon lenses do not have af motors in them i would stay away from d-5100, d-5000,d-3100,d-3000,d-40 and 40x, d-60. Im not sure but think the d-80 and 90 have the af motor in the body. Check with KEH FIRST you will be glad you did. I dont work for them but am a very satisfied and happy customer of theirs.
