Hi Robert-Y,
I am going to watch your responses closely. My wife and I are going to visit Boston, Cape Cod and Portland, Maine for the first time in two weeks. I have asked the same question and have gotten some good suggestions. Stunning photo opportunities throughout the region. Coastal towns have the most to offer. Ogunquit, Portland, Cabbage Island to name a few. The same can be said for Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. If you enjoy sea food prepare yourself for an dinning experience. Nantucket is more condensed and historical. Cobble stone streets, rose lined walkways boarder code restricted homes and buildings to keep the setting of a old whaling village. Martha's Vineyard is more of a vacation town. It is spread out and not as historical. If you plan on bringing your camera, Nantucket is the place to be. Hope this helps and have a great
trip. I just remembered something else to do. Go on line and look up PhotoWalks Tour Of Boston. We are going to do the Waterfront Tour. $66.00 for the two of us. They have several different tours. We chose this one because it best fits our schedule.

I took the photo walks tour with Saba in 2006 and really enjoyed it. In fact, I was her only customer that day. I also loved taking pix of the Christian Science Church and just walking around the area of that area. The library is also a great stop. Below are two galleries, one from the photo tour and the othe on my own. we stayed near Northeastern University.

Sounds like I should buy some more memory cards. lol

Are you tired yet from all the input you've gotten? From my view point after seeing all the suggestions I'm beginning to miss the old home town. It's always good to see how folks really think of Boston. "The hub city of the wold."

Portland: a great little city. The "old Port" section has nice little shops and there are some very good restaurants and Ale Houses. But it is also worth walking down Commerce St to the Pier and taking the ferry out to Peak's Island. It's about a 30-minute trip - you go past an old fort, and you can walk around Peak's Island and catch another ferry back. You can pay a little extra and just stay on the ferry as it makes its rounds to several islands and returns to Portland if you like. The area around the Portland Head Lighthouse is of course a very famous photo spot. Most tourists make the drive up to Freeport, a little ways North of Portland, so they can go to LL Bean. No rush - it is open 24 hours a day. Boothbay Harbor is also a beautiful spot, or you can go a little further up the coast to Pemaquid Light. If the weather is nice consider a half-day sea kayak trip. Enjoy!

If you like history, try the Freedom Trail which is a walking or trolley tour of Historic Boston including the "Constitution" (Old Ironsides), Bunker Hill, Old North Church, Boston Massacre, etc.

Never too tired...the response has been awesome. I know one thing for sure, there is no way that we will be able to take everything in. So much to see and do and so little time to do it in.

I would like to say a big thank you to you all for your ideas, although difficult to follow as my post seems to have been hijacked and there has been a degree of cross posting. But we have made notes and hopefully will be able to use some of your ideas. Thanks again.

Hi Robert,
I think am the guilty party who "hijacked your post". It was unintentional and I apologize for the confusion it may have caused. As I mentioned to you previously my wife and I are going to the Boston, Portland and the Cape Cod area around the same time you are going. Some one responded to me through your post and it spiraled out of control from there. I must say though, you sure received a fantastic amount of response to your question. For that I thank you. It has given me some great ideas on what to do and where to go. Enjoy your trip.

John

Hi all,

I would be grateful for any info on good places to get some great city scapes in Boston. We fly next weekend and only have two nights in Boston before heading to Cape Cod.

Hello Robert -- check out Beacon Hill. I went on a photo walking tour there through http://www.photowalks.com. They did a wonderful job and have several tours available.

Regards,

Dennis
