Hi all,

I would be grateful for any info on good places to get some great city scapes in Boston. We fly next weekend and only have two nights in Boston before heading to Cape Cod.

Hi Robert-Y,
I am going to watch your responses closely. My wife and I are going to visit Boston, Cape Cod and Portland, Maine for the first time in two weeks. I have asked the same question and have gotten some good suggestions. Stunning photo opportunities throughout the region. Coastal towns have the most to offer. Ogunquit, Portland, Cabbage Island to name a few. The same can be said for Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. If you enjoy sea food prepare yourself for an dinning experience. Nantucket is more condensed and historical. Cobble stone streets, rose lined walkways boarder code restricted homes and buildings to keep the setting of a old whaling village. Martha's Vineyard is more of a vacation town. It is spread out and not as historical. If you plan on bringing your camera, Nantucket is the place to be. Hope this helps and have a great
trip. I just remembered something else to do. Go on line and look up PhotoWalks Tour Of Boston. We are going to do the Waterfront Tour. $66.00 for the two of us. They have several different tours. We chose this one because it best fits our schedule.

Hi,
Some of the more interesting spots to shoot from are:

Winthrop. Across the harbor from Boston, there are spots where you can capture the skyline and the airport.

Mission Hill. A high point which foregrounds the back bay and roxbury with the skyline in the background.

You might also consider a dusk cruise on the harbor. Some vibration to contend with, but great angles from the water.

Ii'm assuming you'll have a car and GPS?

Have a great time.

I'll jump in and thank you for your information. As far as GPS, we don't go anywhere without Garmin. lol
I've read a lot about Back Bay, is it worth visiting?

Just to add to the above post, the Longfellow bridge has one of the most spectacular views of Boston. Construction going on now, but pedestrians can still walk across.

You've already got good advice about the surrounding areas. In the city, the Freedom Trail walking tour will take you through many of the old landmarks and you can photograph interesting architectural sites like churches, town halls, taverns, etc. The cemeteries along this tour are very photogenic too. I liked the duck tour for harbor photos. Boston Public Garden has photo opportunities if you get out real early before it gets too full of people. The USS Constitution is fun to photograph. The old churches such as Trinity have photo ops inside and out (be sure to get the reflection of Trinity in the glass skyscraper next to it). The bridges themselves, both old and new, are photo ops. My personal favorite target is Fenway Park, the most classic baseball stadium we have left, but I am prejudiced.

So you'll be going from the Pacific northwest to the Atlantic northeast. There is no limit to photographic opportunities here. Bring enough memory cards.

Do a famous Duck Tour...can't visit Boston without. Also, on the way to Cape Cod, please stop in New Bedford (the Whaling City)....a great National Park now and working waterfront (along with the Whaling Museum; great history & great restaurants.
