MaggieMay, you're worrying about nothing when it comes to the Mother's hair. It's natural for the hair to fall over the face in that pose and looks fine to me.

I'd be worrying about the lighting and the focus point (or DOF), in fact, I'd have binned the image straight away. Sorry if that sounds harsh, it's just my opinion which may not tally with yours.

There are online retouching services that will do that for you and the price is reasonable. Of course, if you are a computer guru, you can diy.

hi Maggie - Do you use Photoshop? If so, the clone stamp will do the job. BTW it's a lovely picture!

I like Bamboo's changes.

MaggieMay, I tend to agree with Bamboo in as much as I like the way he/she cropped it. I also think the hair adds to the reality of the photo - a slightly dishevelled new mum with her darling baby. However if you want to get rid of some of the hair do it with the patch tool in PS elements or PS CS5 etc. patch tool works best here because there is not a good spot to clone from (in my opinion) I have attached my very quick effort. Hope you like it.
PS You haven't lived in Australia in a previous life have you? LoL looking at your avatar you look like some one I know.

A Little bit of Patch Tool work

I would go with the cropped view and leave the hair alone Looks very natural like that Other wise a nice photo

I don't find her hair as objectionable as the large area of in-focus backdrop on the right. Looks like it could be a made into a very nice black and white shot.

The hair is natural. It's not a distraction to me. I would suggest altering the contrast/brightness slightly to get a bit more detail in the arm, hand, and baby. The highlights are a little blown out. But it might be my monitor. Here's a slight adjustment in brightness and contrast and a bit of cropping. Like I say it may appear different on different monitors. I have that problem when printing.

CR5 but I use old school tech. Made a copy layer - then cloned out the hairs as best I could. Then spray painted the skin tone back. Where her hair was cast a shadow the made most of problems. For her arm, just selected it and did a contrast adjust. for the back drop, just selected it and did a Bucket fill. And time. Took about 2 hours complete. It could have been done in Gimp.

Two Hours!!!!!! You have way more patience than I do. I spent two minutes with PS Elements just cropping and adjusting brightness and contrast. Your results are great but my attention span is not as long as it should be. Oops! I just realized I was using an already edited version of the photo. Anyways the hair had already been corrected. I just cropped and adjusted as stated. Sorry for editing someone's edit of an edit of the original. Or something like that. I'm so confused. Time for a beer and hit the pool.
