I have been looking for a Canon 60D. Everywhere i have looked says the camera is out of stock. Talked to a guy at Wolfe Camera and he told me that where the cameras were made was recently flooded. Does anyone have any additional info or have any idea when production may resume? Also.....where can I find the camera?

According to http://www.canonrumors.com the production and shipping of all Canon products has suffered because of the flooding and tsunami damage in Japan...ever to the point where Canon is considering moving their factories out of Japan entirely. On the website toggle down to the 60D on the home page ..click and it will tell You all about the shortages.

Good advice from others. P. C. Chang is right.....if you can grab the last one at B&H that is a good price. Good luck in the search.

I own a 60D with the 18-200 lens. It is a great camera, worth waiting for. If you cannot wait, consider moving up rather than down. Once you use the 60D, you will be spoiled.

I found the Canon 60D at the following:
(1) Camera Mart USA, Pontiac Michigan
(2) Costco
(3) Best Buy
(4) Ritz Camera

Just went to Costco yesterday and they have plenty.

Hope that helps................Jerry

Scooper,
The reason this is happening and it is happening to all the Japanese manufacturers is this. The Sunami that hit Northern Japan and caused that Nuclear plant to shut down and caused such extensive damage to buildings is the reason. Many of the supply companies that make the electronics for Sony, Canon, Nikon are in that region, they still are not up to full production and are not expected to be until sometime in 2013. They components for the camera are behind schedule, I am not sure you will be able to find the camera, check B&H they are probably the largest buyer of cameras and if anyone will have it they will.

Be careful many of the "body only" are just that. No Canon USA warranty, battery, charger, cd/dvd disks, strap, etc. Check this before you buy. Those extra items can cost you plenty. That is the reason they are so cheap. Watch when they say 1yr USA Warranty. Waht you want is a iyr Canon USA Warranty the others are warranteed by some third party repair company. BE CAREFUL especially form BROOKLYN NY sellers

Is there any truth to the idea that ordering from Canon website will give you the latest build for a particular product... IOW, what is on the shelf of a retailer may be 'older' than what you get by ordering direct???

Jerry,
Just what Brooklyn sellers are you talking about, Focus, one of the best in the business. Please I deal with lots of the sellers in Brooklyn, makes no difference where they come from when you buy without having the item in your hand you are in a crapshoot.

Don,
If it is a popular model, they will be almost the same. Check with B&H & Adorama, these two companies are reliable and sell thousands of cameras a week.

I just purchased a 60D from a Klamath Falls, Oregon shop about a month ago. They shipped it in from Portland , Oregon and I had it within a weeks time. Maybe you need to look around more. Should be able to find one fairly easily. I really like mine.

I didn't say "all Brooklyn camera sellers" I'm from NYC and have bought a good number of cameras and other equipment on line. I actually got cheated by one of them and had to have both the NYC Dept of Consumer Affairs as well as Amex step in to help. It's alway buyer beware, Bklyn photo sellers have a bad rep and you can see this in many posts about them on Google. All I caution is BE CAREFUL. Didn't mean to upset you - sorry

On the Canon web site, you can purchase directly from Canon. Get a refurbished 60D body. I just bought a refurbished 7D and I could not be happier. I got it when they had a sale on the refurbished units, about two weeks ago and got an outstanding deal. The refurbished units currently go for $799 (60D) ( I think). The units are not used. Talk to a customer service rep and they will explain the whole thing. Shipping was fast.
I would stay away from any and all discount dealers on the web.

Jerry,
You did not upset me at all, I just thought that it was not so cool to lump Brooklyn together. I deal with a lot of the Brooklyn sellers and also B&H and Adorama, they also get some negative reviews. Yes you always have to be careful on line.

Have a Happy New Year.

There are a number of photo shops in New York that start with the street name: i.e. 47 St Photo. Check them out. Also check out Adorama.

Buyer Beware. I would avoid these sites at all cost. They are mostly bait and switch. Also try to sell you cheap knockoffs of accessories, in order to get their advertised prices on cameras.
Stick with companies with great reputations such as Adorama and B&H Photo Video
