Instead of food stamps, they should be given surplus foodstuffs. Kinda like the the food pantries I volunteer at. That way, they would get wholesome, nutritious foods instead of junk foods. Hey, that would fit right in Michele's attempt to get children to eat properly, wouldn't it? Then again, the crooks among them would likely just try to sell the food for the cash they could get......

Gnslngr, I don't know where you got your stats, perhaps from your own biased brain, but I will post a link of the facts about government assistance. True, just about one percentage point more of the recipients are white as opposed to black. But, whites comprise about 72% of our population while blacks comprise only 13% of our population.....a great many more blacks, percentage wise, are getting government assistance. So, Sir, when making bold statements....back it up with facts, and not your demented thinking!

I would think that a majority of people if you asked them, knew (or knows) at least one person that buggers the system. That adds up.

Flashback to the early '70's, I'm on active duty, wife and I came home on leave, I went with my sister when she went food shopping. The stuff she bought was far better than we could afford on my pay (SGT about $5000 pr year, $7000 if you added housing)

Jump forward to the mid '90's. Her and her 2 daughters went shopping, all on food stamps. They borrowed my truck to haul it home in. Included were 96 bottles (liter) of soft drinks. She said the kids wouldn't drink anything else. Why not generic pop or kool-aid, the kids wouldn't drink it and would rather eat cereal than real food. Also went and got stuff from the food pantry. Husband couldn't keep a job because neither one of them could stay off the weed long enough to pass a drug test.

Now, I know how she was raised, and it wasn't like this, to suck off the public teat for over 20 years (and still counting).

You cannot sit there and tell me that if I drew a circle 20 miles around and looked at the food stamp people, that she was the only one and this is in a mostly rural area.

I suspect the % of abuse is far higher than 1%. I wish our state would make them do volunteer work to get assistance, no matter what your problem is there is something you can do to make your community better.

I have conveniently relabeled anyone in need to the status of parasite, thereby abrogating any christian duty I may have, since parasites deserve no consideration.
