Did you know that the overwhelming majority of working-abled food stamp recipients work full or part-time? Did you know that disabled and senior citizens make up a large percentage of food stamp beneficiaries? Did you know the largest recipient of food stamp beneficiaries are white children? And that 76% of SNAP benefits go towards households with children? Did you know that a majority of food stamp beneficiaries use the program for just 6 months and that the rate of fraud in the program is less than ! percent?
I bet many of you didn't And if you did, I bet you chose to ignore it. Because it went against your common but completely false misconception that people on food stamps are lazy, unemployed, drug-addicted welfare queens living and leeching off the teat of responsible taxpayers.

Do you know how many folks I know, who receive food stamps, that also have the latest smart phones with unlimited plans, drive nicer cars than I can afford, have full Cable/or Sat programming streaming to big flat screens all through their house--one I know even has a 40" mounted in their bathroom so they can watch it from their Jacuzzi.
I'm all for helping those out who really need it, but ANY & ALL government provided assistance should be means tested.

Add to the "Do you Know" list. Do you know that the amount recieved in food stamps is reduced by the amount of money made. Did you know (this is in Nebraska) food stamp reciepents have to do volunteer work or have a reason they are noit able to to recieve SNAP benifets. - Dave

There has NEVER been a government program with only 1% fraud. NEVER! How do they figure that? The majority of fraud is never discovered so it is IMPOSSIBLE to measure. :roll:

Well I don't about other places but in the last year there has been 2 business here that cashed peoples Lone Star cards (food stamps) took one half the money and give the other half back to them in cash then some of them then put the money back into game machines at his place of business. Now we are talking major money. One pleaded guilty and is now in prison and the other is awaiting trial. So have a real problem with your 1 % statement.

So there are some crooks cheating on food stamps. While I think this is wrong take a look at defense contractors. Halliburton's Kellog-Brown and Root were stealing from the government way back in the '30s when LBJ was a congressman and they still are. Look at the crooks on Wall Street. While food stamp crooks steal thousands the other crooks steal millions and billions. What I am saying is don't condemn all those on SNAP as we don't condemn all those in the other programs because of a small percentage of thieves. - Dave

If you question my suspicions than you have no common sense. These figures are provided by the USDA and are estimates.
Did you ever work at a job where your evaluation was done by YOU? What if the claim was NO fraud? Would you believe that? Not much difference between 0% and 1% is there? Yes 1%. That is nothing. You never question any of those 'surveys' that are funded by government grants? I've got a bridge that's fallin' apart to sell ya!
