A recent study (referenced below) shows that if McDonald's doubled the salary of every employee, including its CEO, the price of a Big Mac would increase by 68 cents. Would you be willing to pay 68 cents more for your Big Mac to guarantee that every McDonald's employee was making a living wage?

The last Big Mac I ate was July 28, 1983. So, I doubt increasing the price will affect my purchasing one.

Semiconductor manufacturing equipment, entry level field service people can expect to earn 45-50K year one, once competent as a field installer 70K and up depending on how much time is spent at customer locations.
I averaged 2 trips to Asia per month with an occasional trip to Europe thrown in. Senior installers earned over 100K with 40-50% overtime

Bruce; Did you work for the NSA, or to Pentagon?
or in Chine? Because I try to get a job as photographer and they ask me if I have Cannon equipment ; for proffesional with Ninkon not job .

Why pay more? Living wage? I wouldn't pay more, I'd just go elsewhere. Businesses are in business to MAKE MONEY, not to be social engineers. If you have a product that is over priced, it will not sell if there are viable alternatives. Doesn't sell? Close your doors. Take a look at the political fiasco in DC with WalMart. They demanded a living wage, they got closed stores, in the very areas that would have benefitted the most.

The concept of a 'minimum wage' was to ensure that everyone could earn enough to live on. It probably was at one time, but has not kept up with inflation. A problem with the low minimum wage here in Canada is that in many cases, people living on welfare have a higher effective income than they would get from a 'minimum wage' job.

Noela; One time Jesus said, "If you had a grain of mustard as brain understand how things work".

Did the businesses made money in the 40"s, 60"s or not?

I wouldn't even pay the 68 cents for a Big Mac.

Who says that doubling the wage would make it a "living wage"? Or that the CEO's present salary is not a "living wage".

These surveys are sometimes a bit rediculous. I don't understand why the CEO or any management should get their salaries doubled just to make a living wage for the bottom echelon employees. First off, this "Living Wage" bill is just like the "Right to Work" bill. It is all BS and a misnomer. None of these bills are actually in the interest of the employee at all and would simply eliminate overtime pay and allow employers to fire employees without cause. Even the new "Family Fairness" bill would substitute overtime pay for equal compensatory time off and eliminate the 40 hour work week standard.
This is all word games and mis-titled bills that are being sold to a dumb public with little understanding of the rights they lose. Another attempt by the "SNAKE OIL" salesman in congress to eliminate the things that have been fought for through unions for years. Hell, a full weeks work in France is only 35 hours and then OT is required and they get twice the paid vacation time Americans get as well as socialized medical coverage. Go figure.

However, if you really think about making the minimum wage an actual living wage, it would cause massive inflation. These fast food jobs were never designed to support families and were for second jobs and kids working through college or high school. Any one who has 3 kids and a wife to feed and works in McDonald's as a burger flipper should have gotten their testicles removed before they got married and had those kids. Get an education and a real job and plan for life and family support that really makes some sense

Who's fault is it that your stupid and have no education or job skills? Get REAL. This new generation wants to have it all but not do the work to get there in the first place. Welfare is not a career goal.

Seems that many think the Big Mac cost too much now.
See the MSN money article. According to MSN the average price of a Big Mac is $4.79.

http://money.msn.com/now/post.aspx?post=0437121f-16b6-4818-8c0d-a7899f23338c

At $ 0.68 the increase is 14%. Likely this increase would be across the board.

I worked food service as one of my first jobs...Then moved up from there into better & better paying jobs...Before relocating down to Georgia, I worked one full time & 2 part time jobs to make ends meet with a wife & 2 kids (in Maryland). Well, in Georgia, I only needed one job to support my family (less taxation, lower energy bills, etc)...Those 2nd & 3rd jobs were at a liquor store & a video store (cheaper liquid refreshments for us & free videos for the kiddos helped the fact that they were low wage jobs, actually saved us some $$$) bottom line, I didn't expect to make big bucks at those part time jobs (and most people wouldn't), they were just supplemental income, nothing else. Oh & I don't eat at Micky D's, so no, I wouldn't pay more either...

I don't eat their OVERPRICED CRAP. THese guys should all be in jail for defrauding the public, especially children. Their slick advertising campaigns are quite deceptive. I saw a New! Bacon Cheeseburger on the TV. It was about 5 inches high, loaded with savory bacon, two juicy all beef patties about an inch thick each, two slices of American cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce, red ripe beefsteak tomato, special sauce on a sesame seed bun.
Well, I was out one day and it was about lunch time. I was near the golden arches and decided to try their new, wonderful burger. A I pulled in there were huge posters on the windows enticing me to try one.
I took one home. It looked like someone sat on it. It was about two inches thick, all dried out, a real piece of s_ _t!
My dog wouldn't even eat it and my dog has eaten cat poop! Guess what, it was only $4.27 with tax.      :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

"Numbers don't lie but liars use numbers". There is no longer any sanity in wage distribution. The rich continue to get richer and the poor get poorer. And, the middle class shrinks. We are becoming a more service oriented society that is comprised of low level compensation. Does McDonald's have a profit sharing plan or 401-k plan ? Why can't all corporations have a philosophy that as the company goes so goes the employees ? When an employee has a stake in the company mentality changes dramatically. A lot of things that used to work in our society 50 years ago have long been forgotten. Today's executives are not nearly as intelligent as they think they are ..... but a lot more greedy.
