I'm looking for an inexpensive (cheap?) way to show friends and family some of my photos. The analogy would be a cross between the old photo album and the (old?) Kodak slide show with carousel, projector and screen.

I don't think I need Internet connectivity, and I waver about sound and video. But I don't really have a way to share my photos easily, even with my wife. I just want to be able to whip out a gadget and scroll through a set of photos on a display that two people can easily share at the same time.

I don't have any of the i-gadgets, and don't really want one. Simpler is better, and inexpensive is good, also

What are the suggestions?

You might consider a relatively inexpensive tablet or laptop..

If you have a large flat screen tv maybe look into hooking up a small desk top pc to it. I use a dell hooked up to a sony...but...I also use it for internet tv and radio...and use a slide show for a screen saver.

They used to make a table top projector that also had a screen built into it on it's front. It took Kodak or other brand carousels on it's top. If I remember right it even took 35mm film strips and also had audio future. You could use it to project to a screen or on table top and use the built in screen. I don't know if it is still produced or not. If you find one, it probably would be real cheap now.

Your title is Digital Photo Frame. I got a 10" NIX last year, and that has worked very well. Read reviews because some units don't sound too reliable.

On that flat screen you can often times just plug a thumb drive in and use it (the TV) as a digital picture frame.

Brett, I like the way you get the most use out of your flat screen, wish I could set mine up similar.

For want you want to do there is no way around the fact that your photos have to be digitized so you can put them on an SD card. Then buy yourself a cheap generic brand pad. They sell for as little as $85 these days. I have one that operates on an android operating system but they operate on windows too. Stick in your SD card and start the slide show. They all have picture viewers and slide show apps built in.

I'm showing my age (and ignorance) here.

What is a "pad"? and what are some generic ones? Or if I want to do the Google search (and I won't even wait for JR1 to tell me to do it), what term should I use for the search?

Here's an assortment. They're also called tablets. Read reviews before you buy. If you get the latest Consumer Reports (August) you'll see that they have several pages of reviews on these.

Go to this link in Walmart for an $89 "10" Tablet. I bought this two years go for travel and it still works like a champ. I'll put it up against any $400 Apple Ipad.

I have a Philips frame. I can't find the model number, but it lets me keep a 32GB SD card in back that I can swap in and out of the frame and my computer to keep adding pictures. I remember from shopping online...you'd think from the comments every single one of them regardless of model or maker is going to die a month or two after plugging it in. To-date now after a year there's never been a problem. It sits on the kitchen counter scrolling through pictures constantly. I've yet to figure what the sort or random order being used to display files. When you walk by, you never know what you'll see.
