For any subject type of photography, in your opinion, what are the best "non-L" lenses that Canon makes?

For one, the EF-S 10-22 mm super-wide angle.

EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM has to be on the list.

So called, "BLACK MAC," non L, non IS. Put a good flash system on it and you are good to go! Add extension tubes even better. "JR"

Add to that the 85mm F1.8, and while its a specialized lens the MP-E 65mm for macro. I've also heard that the 28mm f1.8, and 35mm f2 are pretty good.

The lenses already listed are all great. I'll toss in the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM at the next tier down as a great IS performer that gives the 300mm reach at a modest investment for good to great results.

There are two that I know of: The EF-s 10-22mm and the EF-s 100mm macro.

Just remember if you ever plan on going full frame the EF-s lenses can't be used on them

Jeff Revell, in his excellent book on using the Canon 600d recommended the Canon EF-S 18-200mm lens. On his recommendation I bought one. Whilst it has limitations I have been happy with it. In some appalling conditions of both dust and later torrential rain where the last thing you would want to do us change a lens, I was quite happy with most if the results from both ends if this lens.
