I stand corrected, yes I believe it is Windows 8 that I meant to reference not 7. I'm still not sure why an upgrade to a software should require you to by a whole new operating system - hmmm I wonder if it could have something to do with my now needing to buy 2 things instead of 1! I realize it's just business - get a break on the upgrade and then need to spend 3x as much on a new operating system - good work if you can get it!

It's a little more complex than just vendors trying to rip us off for more money. Two general reasons for the operating system requirements are: First that newer operating systems have advanced hardware requirements and advanced capabilities that the software is designed to use. Second, the design and support of the same software on multiple platforms is very expensive. Many vendors will only support their software on the most current operating system and one version back, which in this case would be Windows 7. Adobe could probably have allowed installation on Vista but then would have been responsible to make sure it works on that version which requires a lot of additional testing and possible software modifications.

I'm sorry but I did go back and read your first post and you did call any of us who are computer knowledgeable weenies. When you said that you weren't a computer weenie you implied that those of us who were computer knowledgeable were weenies but you are not knowledgeable enough to understand that. I never ask for help by insulting those that I am asking for the help from. Since more than one person was insulted seems you are in the minority.

You my friend are the weeniest among weenies and should hang your head in shame !

Thanks to all you weenies...
Even IT Specialists can't be all bad if you're iinto photography

In all due respect, is there a particular reason you are so anti-technology? Take the time to learn. You might be surprised how fascinating it is.

You really don't get it do you. The word weenie is a highly insulting and emasculating term. Look it up. Foolish me, I actually spent some time looking for a workaround for you but forget about it. You act like you're being abused but you are the abuser and with every post you keep stepping deeper into it.

The situation has been stated several times & is understood. Get over it!

We can swap insults for weeks and no one will learn anything; this forum is supposed to be Helpful and Instructional; let's get back to that!

If you look on Adobe's site, Lightroom 5, it gives you the min specifications for what it takes to run LR5. So if anyone buys LR5 and does not bother to check the specs, then who is to blame here....not Adobe.

I think it's fair to think that not everyone checks, especially those that are not computer savvy. The real issue on this thread is that the OP included in his rant an insult to the very people who might have assisted him. It's like saying. " l have a problem. I think that the people who could help me with my problem are all weak and ineffectual girls (his word, not mine) but can someone give me advice anyway?"

I do not call anyone a weenie nor do I ask anyone for help or advice. To those of you who take such offense at the term weenie, your problems run deeper than this forum allows time for... If you are an "IT Professional" who takes such offense, then grow a set and stop acting like a weenie.
To those who had a laugh and actually gave some good advice, Thanks...
The Photo Weenie

Had you bothered to click on the tab that says, "Tech Specs" you would have had all the information you need to upgrade to LR5. Instead, you decided to have a bit of a tantrum over the matter. You have now chosen to deny your comments and then blame those who might take offense at your comment for having more serious problems. Here's somework for you. Look up the definition of a person who commits a deed, then denies the deed, and then blames someone else for the results of that deed.

Some folks may think we're overreacting. But "weenie" is a derogatory insult, often used by bullies, which refers to weak, ineffectual and emasculated males. Its not like nerd or geek which are only mildly annoying and are at least used with some respect for the skill set.. One could argue he didn't understand the actual meaning of the word, but his later comments make it clear he meant it as a put down of anyone who has in depth knowledge of computers. Each of his subsequent posts are equally as demeaning and insulting. Even his "apology" ended with another insult. He thinks we're way over the top on this. If he had called us idiots or morons no one would argue that we were overreacting. The word "weenie", based on it's actual definition, is every bit as insulting, not just to us personally but to the profession we have chosen.

BobJ, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a weenie.
All of us here on the Hog are camera weenies, or we wouldn't be here.
Just that YOU, my man, are two weenies !!
BobJ, just kidding!! SS

Edit: wow, I didn't realize there was 7 pages of this!
Before everybody starts to hurl their old PC boards at me, I will write on the board 100 times: I'm a weenie, I'm a weenie, I'm a weenie.......
