45 years for me until Kraft Foods shipped my job overseas and retired me.

Thirty-five years for me, but who's counting :) Never knew I was a weenie either. I just always assumed I had valuable expertise in a critically important area used by a significant proportion of all the people in the entire world. Good thing I not a doctor, I guess he'd call me a medical weenie.

Not only did my upgrade to Lightroom 5 cost me $80.00, but I find it will not work until I upgrade my operating system to Windows 8 which will cost another $120.00 !
Adobe could have made that clear on their web site...
After all,I'm a photographer , not a computer weenie !

After all that was said to this person, all good except the weenie part, the only aspect that could stop you from using any photo software would be your outdated video card, if you have such a beast. Fear not, LR 5 works perfectly with Windows 7. Please, don't go backwards to Vista.

What is the Service pack?

Often abbreviated as SP, a service pack is a collection of updates and fixes, called patches, for an operating system or a software program. Sometimes the operating system patches are very significant and software designed to run on that operating system will have upgrades that require that service pack be installed before installation of the software.

Hmmm, was thinking about purchasing LR for photo processing. Question please; I have XP, service pack 3: Will this work? Thanks in advance for your answers.

you must be a sensitive computor weenie to boot !

Go to the Windows (Start) Icon in bottom left, click on All Programs, from menu list click on Windows Update, follow instructions, and you will do fine. It is time consuming but worth the trouble, less money, but if you select the Windows update and then on left side of Update screen select settings, then in menu box in middle of next page you should be able to select auto update all the time where Windows does the updating for you, BUT REMEMBER WHEN AN UPDATE STARTS DO WHAT IT SAYS, DO NOT GO AGAINST IT. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!!!!!!

Based on all the responses I assume you got your answer. On the other hand, if you were on a Mac, a requirement to move to the next OS might have been the case as Apple doesn't consider downward compatibility important.

If you are not a "computer weenie" avoid Win8 at all costs! I had to replace my old computer running Vista Home Basic (and never had any problem with it) with a Win8 system and I HATE THE DAMN WIN8! I'm not a "weenie" either, but I don't consider myself "Windows Illiterate" as I've been using Windows since v3.1

I'm using PSE10 so it shouldn't have been a problem. I installed PSE10 on the new computer, made a back up of the old catalog using PSE10 and the new computer won't recognize the file type. I then bought a Data Transfer Cable, and with both computers running the file transfer program, the new computer "can't find" the Easy Transfer program on the old computer. Unfortunately, the soon to be released Win8.1 doesn't seem as if it will be much better although it may bring back the old Start Menu". It may also have a price tag attached so we will pay and suffer for Microsoft's screw-ups.

Not Happy

I use Adobe Lightroom 5 with no trouble under Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1.

Intel i7-2600K
8GB DDR3 RAM
500GB Hard Drive
CD/DVD Burner
Nvidia GTX 560TI 1GB Video Card
25" LCD Monitor

I can think of NOTHING which requires Windows 8

Slang: A person, especially a man, who is regarded as being weak and ineffectual.

Its an emasculating term and certainly not complementary.

Why is it that when some one asks for help and they are given it they then have to start being rude. I do not see the point in asking if when you get folk take the bother of repling to the question to help you are rude in return. My son is a "computer weenie" and has a very good job and I am proud of him.

Your son may be a "geek". He may be a "nerd". They are, to me, annoying terms used to describe people like us with technical careers. But those words are not outright insults like "weenie", which describes a person, especially a man, who is considered weak and ineffectual.

Seems like the windows version has been settled. Being in IT and programming for the better part of 15 years, I prefer geek, or nerd, to weenie.

At least when she apologized she seemed contrite, if only for the camera. Your apology contained another insult as bad as the first and tells me you were not sincere. I won't accept another. You'll get no help from me.
