I agree UP-2-IT.......most of them don't really know the impact that a real war has on people or a country. My father in law has some amazing stories of WWII where his life was in danger many times. He lived through it and now shares the stories with his grandchildren, who actually do have interest in what he has to say.
Thats the same as my Father was, he was in the Pacific, Okinawa, Guadacanal, the Mariannas. So many times he and I would sit on the back porch with our coffee and he would tell me of his experiences. The landings, the bullets sounded like hornets flying around them, at night crabs would crawl in the foxholes with them, the snipers in the trees, at night the Japs had a messenger that ran back and forth and how they all tried to be the one to get him, someone finally did.
Sorry, didn't mean to ramble guess I just miss him.

No problem on the rambling. This is the thread for Memorial Day Weekend that is almost over now. It's been an uplifting experience overall.

Now you have those memories to pass on to your children and Grandchilden. So many of the young people today have absolutely no knowledge, and with some unfortunately no interest in their family history.
Actually, no it's not something for me to pass down. Due to an accident when I was 17, I can't have kids. Although, I do hope my Niece and Nephew appreciate it when they are older.

Wow, very nice! If his face has as much character as his hands, then you need to talk him into posing for you even more!

Your situation is most disappointing for you I am sure but you can make a place for yourself with your neice and nephew and their memories of the past.
Well Brent, you hit a home run with this thread. I am sure this has helped many more people than have posted here, those unable yet to express their pain and those unable to say they appreciate what all have said here. You have been blessed far beyond what we are able to show.
Again, a heart felt thanks to all who have served and to all who who have given their lives so that we who are left behind can speak our minds and enjoy the freedoms that we have. Thank you to all the families of those who have served. Theirs is a hard road to travel, both when they are left at home and when their loved one comes home, they have to help heal both the body and the mind. God Bless America!
firefly, I'm sooo sorry about your nephew and and very thankful for his service.
