Since this is Memorial Day Weekend.............let us not forget what the holiday is truly about.............those that have sacrificed for us to preserve the Freedoms that we enjoy. Even those that have even given their very lives for this cause. I would like to dedicate this thread to all those veterans of the past and the armed services men and women that are now in operation around the world preserving our Freedoms. I will start this thread off with my contribution and open it up to all the UHH members to post their creative tribute in the form of a photo.

From last year's Memorial Day festivities.
On Veteran's plaze at Memorial Hall
Remember & Honor those left behind
Place of honor for VFW members
The 2012 version of Iowa's "Freedom Rock" which is freshly paint with new scenes to honor Veterans.
View of Tomb of the Unknown with "Ghost" Soldiers
Honoring the 5 Sullivan Brothers
Honoring Taylor Morris (lost portions of 4 limbs) at the top, and the bottom honors Vietnam Vets. The 'chopper' is freshly painted each year with paint that includes the ashes of Vietnam Vets. This portion of the rock will NOT be changed, just freshened up each year.
Painted by Ray "Bubba" Sorenson
OK, here is one I took recently.

Recently? - I'm guessing it's half mast because of the Boston bombing?
It works for Memorial day too though.

Nope!! But for too many people, that is all they think about!!
As a Vet from Vietnam Era (served in Korea) it makes me sad to see so many ignoring ALL vets of the past AND present!!

I haven't captured any of the "half staff" flyings, but in Iowa the governor requests that honor each time one of our soldiers returns from the current conflicts on their "final journey". Usually this continues for a week each time.

I tip my hat to you Wahowk for being a Vietnam vet and serving our country. What branch were you in?
I'm one also....stationed in Germany as a fireman for the USAF.

I was drafted into US Army. Served as a clerk. My BIL was stationed in Germany as a pharmacist, and his brother as a dental assistant.
ALL who served, whether in conflict areas or behind the scenes, have served valuable and necessary positions.
My thanks and appreciation go out to ALL who have Honorably Served!!
I was told one time that for every solder that went into battle there were 7 who were backing him/her up.
My dad served in the Pacific during WWII in the Marines.
