So, had a chance to shoot this morning. This is hard - panning, conveying motion, speed etc. Think we all deserve a round of applause - clap clap clap. I have definitely learned: 1) I need to keep working on this 2) birds in flight are very hard to pan 3) sometimes the unexpected is the best of the lot. #1 looked like an impressionistic painting. Incase you can't see it - Mr. Mallard is off to the right. 4) It's next to impossible to successfully pan, I think, more than one moving object at the same time. All shots were in Shutter priority mode (Tv)
Center spot focus (you'd never know!) ISO 100, f 11, 1/50 300mm lens
Gull changed direction and looks like a "bomber" coming at me - ISO 100, f 22, 1/50 300mm
Same settings. - Ghosty
Double Gull - a throw-away
Maybe the best of what I got today. That's not saying much...

I'm winding up my contributions with these three captures. Enjoy!
Thank you for creating today's challenge. Here are my submissions.

Gracie (mgstrawn) and I are your hosts for this challenge. I was frustrated by a similar challenge in last year's daily challenges. I practiced and practiced, but without the results I wanted - subject focused, background blurred and with a definite feeling of motion and/or speed. While sitting on Rivernan's dock one early misty morning, "it" happened. A fisherman came flying by in his outboard. All boat pictures were taken in shutter (Tv) mode and took place in a split second.
These are examples of "panning" which are explained in this article from Gracie and demonstrated in the Youtube video. I found them both helpful and hope you will too.
The idea is to convey feelings, images that show or convey the idea of movement. Through the days of the challenge I'll post some different ways of capturing movement and I am looking forward to your posts that show energy in motion. Point and shoot cameras are capable of capturing movement, even if not in the same way.
I will post settings and show the attempts as well as the final images. I can think of many ways to show movement and they weren't all done by panning.

Dropping in for a second! So, the Husband says to me yesterday, "Hey, I want you to get some pictures of my clover field before it is gone." I said, "We have a clover field?!" "Yep!" Well, unbeknownst to me, we have a lovely 2 acre clover field in full bloom! Got some clover blowing in the wind.

Love the color of the clover. I remember in Ill. the clover was purple or a blueish color. This is beautiful.

I was up at 5:30 this morning and if we equate that to Colorado time that is around 3:30 am. I'm prepping for some "get up and go shoot" days in Colorado. Are you ready?

I went out with my local camera club last night and got one motion pic of the fountain in the square - please note the sun was shining! We have had three beautiful days. . . must be summer!
Hi suejay, glad you used a fast shutter speed otherwise you may have missed that sunny moment
