Anyone have a recommendation for a camera strap that does not contact the chest? Had 4 by-passes a few years back and they tied my chest back together with stainless steel wire. After about 30 minutes of walking around the strap against my chest becomes very uncomfortable. In the last 4 1/2 years I have tried many different brands without finding a comfortable one. A wrist strap is out of the question because of my poor circulation. Any help at all would be appreciated.

First, congratulations on surviving a quad. As a 10 year member of the zipper club plus triple stint, I would suggest you mention this to your Cardiologist. To be stabbed by a wire this long after bypass isn't right and you should not have to put up with the discomfort. If nothing else, they should be able to go in and clip the offending wire/stitch. Surely, the sternum has healed by now. Completely understand your problem with a wrist strap as well, my left arm and leg will never be the same. However, as is said at Cardiac Rehurt (not misspelled) at least we are around to complain about it.

That being said, MT's advice is great on this. Even the OpTech Pro Loop distributes the camera weight better. The strap however is still going to cross your sternum.

In closing, photography is great cardio exercise, especially the walking. Keep it up.

Good advice from MT. I made the mistake of getting another one they offer, with a strap across the chest. That was not very comfortable, and it wouldn't be good for you.

Buy a second camera and get the OpTech Double Sling strap. Nothing on the chest with that setup plus its inexpensive and extremely comfortable to wear all day. Or maybe hang a water bottle or something else from the other side. Even a single sling strap will lay across the chest so I doubt that will work for your situation.

I also can concur wit MT and offer another way use OpTec's prostrap and carry it over one shoulder not around neck.

I use it that way with my hand on camera. Never had a problem.

And good to hear that you are recovering!

That's a very comfortable strap for carrying on the shoulder or around the neck. It comes in different colors to differential your different cameras at a glance. I have a red one for my IR converted camera. OP/Tech is very willing to work with customers to get custom items, so it you want a longer strap, they will accommodate you.

Op/tech is made in the USA. Many will say they are designed in the USA but are made elsewhere.

You're best bet is a well endowed, 24 year-old red head who just hates cumbersome clothing...and works cheap. Perhaps she wants to learn photography...she could just walk along with you and carry your gear...
Of course...I'm not sure how well they patched up your ticker...could be a problem there...

I have a sling strap that I really like. It probaly would not work for the across the chest issue ( althougth it may ). It uses an attachment system similiar to the Spyder but it is a bit more versitile. The neat thing is that it can be used by the Spyder holster or the sling system that it came with. It is the Carry Speed system. I too was worried about using the tripod mount. I contacted Canon and they said it was OK as long as you did not get really heavy. For the sling, I attach a secong strap to the normal camera lugs just for insurance. If you check out the Cotton Carrier, they suggest that you do the same thing.

Another feature of the Carry Speed is the strength of the attachment. It will not break like some of the other sling systems.

I use a device called "capture" ( https://peakdesignltd.com/capture/ ) that works for me because of it's versatility. I usual mode of camera carry is a dog leash safety tether attached to a small loop on the camera which when I hike is mounted on my leg much like a gun in a holster. Secure and relatively safe from bumps.

I tried the Spider a while ago and had issues with the camera flopping around on my hip at times. I found a similar unit but it pretty much locks the camera to your body. They also have several different styles and the one your looking for is the "carry lite" for $139 or so. You can check it out here http://www.cottoncarrier.com/ I purchased both the two camera vest and the carry lite and swear by both.

Another plus is the safety strap for a second level of drop protection. This saved my bacon once when I slipped and the camera twisted out of my hand and ended up harmlessly swinging by my leg and not down the rock face.

MT shooter,

Do you actually wear that in the field. That's an excellent example of a photographic geek outfit. That makes Jimmy Olson look cool... : )
