my 1972 Minolta srt is not obsolete, still takes killer images. All we need is the Chinese to start making 35mm film

I got my Canon T4I just 6 months ago and now they have come up with a new model. Didn't this, T4I, just come out last year? From what I see it is the same camera. Has anyone read about the T5I? Just curious as to why the new model already. Looks as if sensor the same. www.imaging-resource/PRODS/canont5i/canon-t5iA.HTM I hope the link works ,Tim

yeh - I read something this morning about it. 18 mp, 5fps,and Continues focus in video mode and can't remember the rest now.

I tend to take a while when purchasing new equipment. I read and studied the T1i so long, that just as I was finally going to buy it, the released the T2i.

The T2i was my first digital, I held on to film for a long time. It is a great camera, I can't say enough about it. I recently wanted a second body, mainy so I wouldn't have to change lenses so often, but also wanted a back up for the 3 year old T2i. I ruled out the T3i/T4i rather quickly. I looked hard at the 60D. I finally stopped kidding myself, and bought the 7D. The 7D has been out a long time. That's because it's a fantastic camera. I will use my T2i until it falls apart in my hands. I love that camera. With the announcement of the T5i, you should be able to pick up a T3i or T4i even cheaper. I have heard that the T3i takes better images as it has the same sensor as the T2i & 7D. I have read a few reviews that mentioned the newer sensor on the T4i isn't as good.

BTW B&H has some great deals going on right now. Many camers come with a memory card. You can also get bundle with certain lenses and software. I got the 7D for $1,249. With it, I got LR4 for $85 and PSE11 for $48. You can also get the Canon 70-300IS for $250!!! One bundle includes the Canon 55-250 for $83 !!

I love my T2i, it's my first DSLR and it takes great pictures. Like you say, I will use it until it fails, then I will upgrade.

They do and it is not very good. It does not compare to the English, American, German, Czech and Japanese films. Yes, there are still several manufacturers

Almost identical. DP Review says they are dropping the T3i and the T4i is much cheaoer, so I ordered one. (Really looking forward to the tiltable screen!)

I recently purchased a Canon 7d from a friend who bought it a year ago, but recently purchased a 5d. I'm still going to keep and use my T1i which has done very well for me.

Imaging Resource just posted a preliminary review of the T5i and there isn't much of a difference from the T4i except for the rubber grip update. There was some kind of a problem with the 4's grip turning white and causing allergic reactions in its first shipment. All IR seemed to be impressed with was the new 18-55 lens that is quieter than the current lens kits. Other than that the 5 is no big deal.

That's true, but because of it they have dropped the price of the T4i by about $150; I just ordered one to replace my T2i and get the tiltable screen among other improvements.

0627ramram32: I also purchased the T4i to replace my T1i--trust me, you will notice the difference and the vast improvement over the earlier models. And that's not including the articulating screen. Happy shooting!

If you keep waiting for the newest model, you'll never get one. I have the T2i. It's a great camera, and I love it. The T3i is almost identical. Get one now while the price is low, before it gets discontinued. It's $569 with a lens. The T4i is about $100 more, but I've read reviews that said the T3i was better (they've changed sensors). Since it's your first DSLR, you will get many years out of it. I've had mine for 3 1/2, it's still going strong. Just bought the 7D for a second body.

Normally I'd say get the body only and buy another lens, but the kit is ony $50 more. Slowly start buying good glass that will always work on a body upgrade.

If I recall correctly, computer chip technology doubles in performance roughly 18 months. Soooooooooo the Canon 50D I bought was obsolete about the time I charged the battery and dialed in the diopter.
What shooter or photographer NEEDS the latest, greatest, state-of-the-art technology anyhoo?

I know a few pros and they make due with 5-8 year old Nikons and Canons ( pro shooters do this to make money, not buy more gear)
"Camera Enthusiasts" are well ahead of the curve if they sell enough images to pay for their gear.

I suppose Canon wants to cover every demographic they can.
I bought my daughter a Nikon D40 some years back and she still loves that little thing.
I Up graded her to a T3i last year or so and she likes it well enough, and we can swap lenses, but her first grab is the Nikon. Most of her shooting is with the 18-55 kit lens, She shoots mostly her daughter or scenic.

Canon had problems with the T4i. They replaced it with the T5i and will no longer manufacture the T4i. But the T3i will still be available.
