I need a person of some intelligence to explain just how a system of background checks will prevent criminals or mentally deranged persons from obtaining guns.
Bear in mind I have 10 years experience in running background checks (3-5 per day, average) for determining eligibility to purchase firearms.

There had to be more hidden in the bill, or O would not have done so much to pass it when on the surface it did nothing.

So you can just make shit up and justify it by saying, sorry, just passing on information? Are you for real?

Ahh, the "Liar liar pants on fire" defense never gets old, does it. (Especially when you can add a bit of profanity.)

It Won't. Basically the bills put forward are "Feel Good" bills. We continue to put mentally ill people on the streets with government programs being cut. In the past a number of facilities have been closed and our wonderful government holds that type of thing over the heads of the many sheep we have in our society today. They threaten to cut the programs of people that are unable to fight back.... The country is in trouble. Remember the quote "Caeser fiddles while Rome burns" History always repeats itself. We study it or the rewritten versions of it and do not learn from our predecessors mistakes. All i want is the ability to protect my family and myself.... I want to be on an EQUAL footing with the criminal as i walk down the streets as a hopefully free man. I do not think that is too much to ask......

I live in New Jersey and we do have background checks for every firearm we purchase, plus we have to subject ourselves to a mental clearance by the state every time we want to buy a handgun. I think enough is enough.

I appreciate your sincere response, Larryzplace, but I was hoping an advocate of the legislation would explain how they think the law WILL work to prevent gun violence. Maybe someone will be able to do that.

Every thread about gun control inevitably includes some reference to "thousands of gun laws already on the books" which have done no good, why add more?

Even if those thousands of gun laws were strictly enforced with 100% compliance, a mentally ill person or radicalized home grown terroist can still go to a gun show and buy an assault weapon of his choice and ammunition without breaking any of those laws.

Somethings wrong with that picture??? If you believe there are no solutions to the above mentioned scenario it's only because the senate voted not to listen to solutions that would address those very conditions. A debate would have given voice to both sides of the argument.

Good point, but it was actually neither. During the fire of 64 Nero was afraid that he would be blamed. He wanted to avoid being assassinated for this, since he had presented himself as a god. The populace might demand why the god had not prevented the fire. Nero consequently blamed the Christians and subjected them to a brief, but savage persecution.

Thousands of laws make stealing illegal, yet criminals still steal stuff everyday and go unpunished.
We should eliminate all laws about stealing, theft, fraud etc because only honest people obey them.
Does this logic sound familiar?
