I was told that for an action shot with movement - runners, cars, planes, etc., that you want to give the subject room to move - in the direction they are going. #3 gives the surfer more room on the left side of the picture and doesn't box in him.

Good luck.

Good point abby. Thank you for your input. I agree 100%.

#1 for me, having him 1/3 in from the right makes it just right. I love the defect. Do you if this effect has another name other than oil painting?

marisa, oil painting filter is the only name that I know it has. It's in Photoshop CS6 under the FILTER button of the top bar and the 6th topic down. I don't know if it's in any of the lower versions of Photoshop or not. Thanks for your input!

#1- The Surfer & the Wave & the Curl all stand out. The picture is about "Action".---#3 U see the calm water & U know it is all going to end.--- I like how the Horizon is blocked out in #2, & the concentration on the face & balance in the arms.--- #1 is my favorite thou.

Thanks sleepy51 for your input!

I'm another one for #1 although #2 was a close runner up for me. #1 has the surfer to the right of center. That offset from the center make the shot a little more dynamic IMHO. #2 is a good edge to edge with nothing but the surfer but you do miss the size of the wave. #3 to too centered. You need that unbalancing to create a little more action in the shot. That being said, all three are great. I like the oil painting look too. Nice work.

Like them all, but think I'd go with #3 because it shows the size of the wave better. There is more of a sense of depth and action.
