Sorry for the potential "overkill" but I'm having way to much fun with the "oil painting" filter and going to the next level by adding and enhancing color and depth. Which one of these three different cropping options do you prefer? PS, I hope you like what I did with my surfing image and the oil painting filter.

1. Horizontal
1. Horizontal...

2. Vertical
2. Vertical...

3. Full frame
3. Full frame...

Brent, #3, full frame, shows just how high up on the wave he is and adds to the impact.

I like the first one. Much better composition than the other two. ....... Coot

Nice action shot. To me, #1 has the best compositional balance, but I think I would have cropped less on top and left all of the spray from the board. #2 is a bit narrow for the height and #3 is a bit busy and distracting from the subject. Nice work.

I like #2. I think it personal preference. But out of #1 and #3, I like #1 better.

Was a toss-up 'tween 1 & 3, but think I'm going with #1.

You don't have to have an absolute reason why you like something.......just call it a gut feeling and be done with it! lol
Thanks for your opinion.

I also Like 3 because it shows the complete height of the wave.

That's definitely a terrific application that you're playing with. I'm not going to choose a favorite because each composition has merit.

What kind of art do you do? I'm guessing oil painting because of what you've done with your photos.

Thanks for sharing these. -Vicki

A vote for number one. Number two brings the surfer well into the frame, but it feels and looks unnatural. Number three's subject is the wave, not the surfer. Only number one puts the surfer squarely as subject and in balanced context with the wave.
