Appreciate the comment. Yes, the carvings are made from solid rock and they took a long time to finish the various scenes and statues.

The only bit of information I could find relative to the 1857 date was that the Qing Dynasty contributed a few carvings until 1911.

Super photos, I don't have a passport - never had the urge to travel but it's nice to see other peoples photos, well captured.
WOW, Can you imagine the planning that went into doing this.
At that time in History, the tools that they had to work with, not knowing if the rock formation was suitable, the number of people it must have taken and how long.
