I bought the Nikon D600 from them and was one of the many unhappy with the sensor oil and dust that plagued the new models. B&H allowed me to return it with full refund after 7 weeks. Normally there is a 30 day return policy. I am a big fan of B & H

The other side of the coin : I was screwed by them when they purportedly sent thru UPS (when I specified US Postal Service ), which gives terrible service in my area, two 2 terrabite digital storage for use with Network Storage to operate with the Epson Perfection 750-M Pro
slides/negatives scanner. They stated that there was a $200 discount offered by Epson, and that they would pass on details (s/n etc) to Epson
and the discount would come from them within about 2 months.

First they sent 2 digital storage units that would not work in the Iomega unit, and I later learned that the Iomega website clearly stated so. I mistakenly depended upon the salesman's knowledge. Mistake. They finally accepted return shipment of the 2 units and I ordered 2 that were compatible, but which never arrived. I complained -- Sales, and Customer Service both said that UPS claimed they had delivered the 2 units (over $500 PAID cost) and they would not pursue it -- said I was out of luck. Luck, hell -- UPS DID NOT HAVE MY SIGNATURE, AND I DID NOT RECEIVE SHIPMENT. I am out over $500 AND, although this all transpired last summer, I also have received no discount from Iomega. Bad memories fade, but as I recall in general, that was a purchase from them of over $2200, and my 3 year warranty is fast fading with the Epson scanner and the Iomega 6 unit electronic storage center still sit unpacked but still not even hooked up. My over 10,000 slides and negatives from 30 countries still sit, awaiting electronic storage from what I expected was the best system I could find --- except that B#H won't furnish what I paid for.
And conveniently took the shipper's word for delivery. Would you as a shipper deliver something with over a $500 value without a signature ?
They have asked for and received my signature on items literally worth nothing.
B&H just took an easy way to rip off a customer for an easy $500 and short me another $200 rebate. Their action was approved by a
"Lady" in Customer "Service" and Photography Sales Manager Solomon
Nathan; salesman Nick McGuire ( I had thought the owners only employed Jews) 800 / 947-7785, ext 5731. Apparently they don't "rip you off" unless it is well worth their while (over $500 ?, or over $2000?)
as they slowly reel in the unsuspecting in good "service" and kind free words involving low-cost transactions. And pass the word.
All is not gold that glitters. Beware the dung.

As stated, not the cheapest of all the rest but definitely best in customer service. Just ordered a tripod from them today for my new digiscoping rig... a Swarovski 25-60x 85 scope. Attached are a few photos taken with it.

I needed an item which would enable me to take a somewhat risky shot using my Rebel T3. If all went wrong it would be better to risk the T3 rather than my 7D. I tried to get it in Canada (locally and online) to no avail so decided to take a look at B&H. After not finding what I wanted I decided to enter an online chat session with a sales rep who could not find what I wanted either. I left the conversation resolved not to take my shot.

Anyway after the chat session was closed I was prompted to take a survey. I do not normally partake in these but the sales rep was as helpful as he could be and polite so I decided to go ahead and take it.

Today I received a follow up email from Mrs. Yael Lebovits, who works in the Office of the Director of Sales, which totally blew me away.

Not only did she apologize that I was not totally satisfied, she directed somebody from her department to see if there was an alternative to what I needed, and indeed there was.

I purchased the item from B&H and it will not be last time that I buy from them. When you receive a really good service, when a company goes beyond the norm, it makes a lasting impression (and great business sense).

Maybe B&H should market the way they do business because there sure is a lot of companies that appear not to give a damn!

Very impressed with B&H - if anyone from B&H is reading this - Thank you. You have gained another customer from me.

A couple of weeks back a poster suggested he would never shop at B&H because they were closed on Saturdays and therefore he felt they were imposing their religion on him. It was like a 45 page thread that followed.

Unfortunately the world we live in makes your experience at B&H the exception and not the rule. I have shopped with them exclusively since 1975, the treatment you received is typical of the service they provide.

I don't understand the rant about being closed on Saturday, but applaud them for their respect of their faith. If you are ordering online your order is not going anywhere until Monday anyway. If you are in New York their store is no different than one third of the other stores. Bottom line; browse the web site on Saturday, order on Sunday, they pack it on Sunday and UPS picks it up on Monday. In central Illinois I always get it on Weds.

I am currently not impressed with B&H. I recently placed several items in my cart at B&H and Adorama and compared prices. The total was almost 19 thousand dollars. Adorama beat their price so I called B&H and gave them an opertunity to win my business. They asked for the quote from Adorama, so I sent it to them. they responded with matching prices but made no attempt to beat their prices. I have been called and e-mailed several times by Adorama to see what they can do to win my buisness. I have not had any more contact from B&H. You would think for that kind of an order they would put forth a little more effort to get my buisness. I will say I have always had good service from them in the past. They should believe that I am serious about this order as I just bought a Canon 1D-X from them. Appearently I will be buying from Adorama this time around.

I'm very sorry you felt our response was inadequate. We offer to consider price-match inquiries for any customer, but I don't believe that suggests or implies a price-beating offer. I appreciate wanting to save money whenever possible but I'm not sure trying to buy your business by shaving a buck here and a buck there is the road to success. We offer what we believe are numerous benefits to shopping with us and want to earn, not buy, your business and loyalty. We don't question whether or not you're serious about this transaction but we also feel we don't want to be perceived as Sheldon crying, "Penny, Penny, Penny" while making a nuisance of himself. (Big Bang Theory reference for those who don't watch sitcoms on TV).

I am very sorry we so thoroughly dissatisfied you. I am particularly sorry you received incorrect guidance from a sales associate here a year ago. On behalf of everyone here I apologize.

Hear, hear, I've dealt with B&H even when they had the small store down town 20 years ago, and my sentiments are the same as all the positives herein.

I have been buying from them for a few years. Very knowledgeable folks there. Was on the phone with them 2 days ago about a 2x teleconveter match up. Sales rep told me not a match. I respect their opinions. I live 40 minutes by train from there. Went there a year ago. What a huge great place to go to. Felt like a kid in a candy store. Great personalized service. Bought a D7000. I have spent a few bucks (lol) since and will continue to purchase from them.

Did you know:
B and H, Adorama, 46th street photo, and 42ed street photo stores are a few blocks from each other in manhattan?
B and H and Adorama have competed for a long time. Each trying to out due the other in customer service and prices. I have never been disappointed in a sale from either. 46th street photo I don't know anything about. Lastly, DON'T BUY FROM ELLIOT at 42ed street photo.

Now, you have my interest and started my imagination running. What sort of "risky" shot are you planning?

I have a distribution company and the shot that I want to take involves securing the T3 on a tripod to the front end of one of my forklifts. I want to take slow shutter shots whilst doing donuts on the forklift. I really want this shot and I shall take all necessary precautions of course but I am not willing to risk my 7D for it :) Cheers!
