Leave it to you to add a moronic propaganda point to a serious discussion. the pretense that gun control will leave guns in the hands of criminals, who will then ravage a defenseless population is about the stupidest propaganda anyone can invent. NO surprise that you embrace it, then support it with one of your rightist cartoons.

First of all, no one is a criminal until he had committed a crime, therefore it is impossible to take guns out of the hands of only criminals. In your world everyone would be armed, and there would be a wild west shootout society such as the US is today. The countries that have moved to take guns out of circulation have managed to keep them out of the hands of criminals and others alike. Why don't you just look at some easily found tables of murder rates and see for yourself. There is no need to speculate ignorantly as you have about the effect of conscientious gun control when there are existing models of it already in place.

I once noted that discussing policy with you was like trying to explain particle physics to an amoeba. You have done nothing since then to change my mind.

Just a couple of observations and one question

Mexico is a good example of what happens when very strict gun control is imposed on a nation in the "New World"

In the US we already have more guns in circulation than we do people. This was not the case in Europe when guns were banned successfully.

I live in San Antonio where home invasions are common. How am I to keep my family safe without a gun?

I don't think the Japanese invaded the Azores. It is in the Atlantic Ocean and controlled by Portugal. It has been that way for centuries.
Alaska became a state in 1959 so it was a US territory during WWII. I think you are clutching at straws.

I STAND CORRECTED! I used the wrong "A" name. the aleutians
were invaded, and I did state that they were a territory.

Please check it out yourself. Google let's you verify about anything you wish to know. I live in NC and see this stuff daily on TV and in the paper. Even some of my Republican relatives are embarrassed.

The US mainland hasn't been invaded since the Brits did it and burned the White House in 1812. The war ended in a stalemate as Britain was unable to sustain a military presence due to the great distance. both sides were happy to end in a stalemate.
Canada is our great neighbor and Mexico's army isn't much of a threat to us. Our oceans protect us from other hostile threats. Can you imagine if Iran or North Korea bordered the US.

A lot of people here are really missing the point I believe. If we were able to effectively remove all guns from the general population, criminals would have a field day. They would not hesitate in kicking in most home owners doors because they would know for sure that the people inside would not have guns.Criminals fear the armed citizen much more than the Police and the Courts.

I think most criminals want to avoid confrontation with homeowners and break in when they think nobody is home. here are those who are just violent people who like to intimidate an cause people harm. Changing gun laws to stop selling military looking weapons and high capacity magazines will not affect the ones that are already out there but will stop new ones from being sold. You will still have your gun to protect your home. I think the young shooters of the past year chose the weapon they use because they look cool, I know they could use any weapon with the same outcome and most would but a standard semi automatic hunting rifle might not fit into their fantasy as well as well as a cool looking military style gun does and prevent their attack.

CT just went as far as outlawing several dozen types of weapons. There are also 4 different manufacturers here in CT that were put on notice that they may continue to manufacture them and keep sending the money to the state but they cannot sell them here.

I mentioned them too, but the t didn't take so instead of there are those it read there are those and the spellchecker doesn't alert you to the wrong word spelled correctly, I am not confused.

My response was to BigBear who said that we need to return to the ORIGINAL Constitution.

Read the context of these statements before you make comments.

Go pound sand. This thread is 20+ pages long. I you expect me to go back through every page and read the history of all your comments because you don't know how to craft a correct sentence then you can go pound sand.

I have not and will not look into Papa Johns holdings in the military/industrial complex, but they do spoil for corporate tax cuts, union busting, and reduction of civil rights in order to keep their employes from being able to demand fair pay.

Don't we have the highest corporate tax rate of all industrialized countries. I'd say I support them with lower corporate tax because THEY don't pay the tax. We do. As far as union busting, I haven't heard of those charges made against them but, if true, I should buy more pizza from them. Companies have as much right, as far as I am concerned, to keep thug unions out if their workplace as unions have to mobilize one. I hate unions. I despise them. No....I 'abhor' them.

As far as civ rights, I'm going to have to call BS on that one. Please explain how papa johns is working to curb people's civil rights. Please do.

"As to what the OP said, we have a USDA that is supposed to ensure food is safe to eat in this country. Do you use the same knives and other cooking implements you use to cut up chicken to cut up your veggies without washing them? Do you wipe down your conters and wash your hands in between? Di you smell the chicken first or do you blindly follow the 'sell by' date? Do you wash your veggies first before eating them?

You probably do all those things because you don't trust the govt 100% to keep you safe 24/7 from everything."

What kind of twisted thinking prompted you to write such a thing? First, the issue is not about trusting anyone 100%; it is trusting the government versus trusting corporations. Moreover, hygienic practices in the kitchen are needed whether the meat was properly inspected or not. Contamination can afflict the food at any time.

How about not trusting anyone with your personal day-to-day safety from the common criminals but yourself? That is what the OP meant. When seconds count, police are only minutes away.
