First of all, no one is a criminal until he had committed a crime, therefore it is impossible to take guns out of the hands of only criminals.In your world everyone would be armed, and there would be a wild west shootout society such as the US is today. The countries that have moved to take guns out of circulation have managed to keep them out of the hands of criminals and others alike. Why don't you just look at some easily found tables of murder rates and see for yourself. There is no need to speculate ignorantly as you have about the effect of conscientious gun control when there are existing models of it already in place.

I think most criminals want to avoid confrontation with homeowners and break in when they think nobody is home. here are those who are just violent people who like to intimidate an cause people harm. Changing gun laws to stop selling military looking weapons and high capacity magazines will not affect the ones that are already out there but will stop new ones from being sold. You will still have your gun to protect your home. I think the young shooters of the past year chose the weapon they use because they look cool, I know they could use any weapon with the same outcome and most would but a standard semi automatic hunting rifle might not fit into their fantasy as well as well as a cool looking military style gun does and prevent their attack.

"As to what the OP said, we have a USDA that is supposed to ensure food is safe to eat in this country. Do you use the same knives and other cooking implements you use to cut up chicken to cut up your veggies without washing them? Do you wipe down your conters and wash your hands in between? Di you smell the chicken first or do you blindly follow the 'sell by' date? Do you wash your veggies first before eating them?

What kind of twisted thinking prompted you to write such a thing? First, the issue is not about trusting anyone 100%; it is trusting the government versus trusting corporations. Moreover, hygienic practices in the kitchen are needed whether the meat was properly inspected or not. Contamination can afflict the food at any time.
