Town in US orders residents to own a gun

"Every household in the town of Nelson in the US state of Georgia has been ordered to own a gun.

A new law just passed by the local council makes it mandatory for the head of every household to possess a firearm and ammunition.

The vote was unanimous. "We're making a statement," said city council member Jackie Jarrett. "If you plan on doing us harm, we'll be armed."

Can someone enlighten me as to who or what the town council think they need protecting against or are they planning a Switzerland type militia? :!: :?:

Meanwhile - in Maine a similar proposed law has been rejected.

Thirty thousand deaths a year, twenty thousand by suicide and ten thousand by murder, is not too large a price to pay for the freedom to own guns.

Put their safety in the hands of the Federal Government! Do you mean that we should disband the US Military and rely on the good folks in where ever to defend the country?

Just what are you talking about?

I am not referring about protection against foreign countries,I meant protection from local criminals. The cops are incapable of protecting all of its citizens and also are having problems with protecting themselves.

The Constitution did not come with stipulations.
It is the law of the land. And every legislator has taken an oath to defend it including the Supreme Court justices.

Awesome! They join Kennesaw, GA who took this step back in 1982 and saw a 70% reduction crime the following year, while Georgia as a whole only saw a 10% drop. Crime in Kennesaw dropped another 40% the next year and has remained low ever since. Criminals and governments prefer unarmed victims.

23 minutes is a long wait when your door is being kicked in or you are being beaten.I hope all our gun hating friends have a plan to survive an attack? When it comes it will be swift and furious.
