KW Conch: I thought everybody in Chicago was already armed, locked and loaded.

ppearpeary: Nope, just the Cops and criminals.
.....................................................................

I am baffled by this talking point of the pro gun lobby. It implies that we know before the fact who is a criminal. A person becomes a criminal after he has committed a crime. There is no way to determine that before the fact, therefore arming everyone on demand will only put more armed criminals on the street. The only solution to reducing gun murders is to reduce or eliminate the number of guns in circulation. Every nation that has done this has a murder rate no higher than one fourth that of the US. Japan has 1/13. Reasoning is good, but substituting preconceived notions for facts is delusional.

This statement of yours baffles me.So just being a citizen with a clean record is not good enough. You want proof that the gun buyer will never make a careless mistake or create a crime.Sorry Pal,this it totally impossible to achieve.
...................................................................

You failed to understand my point for sure. the pro gun agenda includes the arguments that the problem is not the guns, but keeping the guns out of criminals' hands. Since we cannot predict in advance who the criminals will be, arming everyone on demand arms the criminals. Are you also baffled by fewer guns in circulation resulting in fewer murders? It does not matter if you understand it or not; it is just a fact.

It's only a fact when you leave out the opposing details and claim it to be a fact. But when you put in all of the pertinent details, your facts then become well .... lies or un-truths.
Just like the pollsters who only interview democrats and ask which party in congress is to blame for the sequester. Then tell the world that according to the polls republicans are the enemy.

I wish I was in a blue state. The Republicans are making NC into a laughing stock since they took over last year.

You don't mind being in a state that tells you how to live ?

People and businesses are leaving in droves to get out.

Here's the latest from NC since the GOP took over. If I wasn't laughing so hard, I would cry.

I'm sure there is more to the story than is being reported by this individual. So I reserve comment until I have all of the info.

Yes, you sure do have a PNagy problem. He keeps throwing out facts you cannot rationally deal with.

Leave it to you to add a moronic propaganda point to a serious discussion. the pretense that gun control will leave guns in the hands of criminals, who will then ravage a defenseless population is about the stupidest propaganda anyone can invent. NO surprise that you embrace it, then support it with one of your rightist cartoons.

First of all, no one is a criminal until he had committed a crime, therefore it is impossible to take guns out of the hands of only criminals. In your world everyone would be armed, and there would be a wild west shootout society such as the US is today. The countries that have moved to take guns out of circulation have managed to keep them out of the hands of criminals and others alike. Why don't you just look at some easily found tables of murder rates and see for yourself. There is no need to speculate ignorantly as you have about the effect of conscientious gun control when there are existing models of it already in place.

I once noted that discussing policy with you was like trying to explain particle physics to an amoeba. You have done nothing since then to change my mind.

BigBear, you're playing fast and fancy with your sophistry. A fact is a fact. You're talking about a debate. Don't confuse the two -- though confusion does seem to be your strong suit.

When you have a debate you use facts to back up your point of view. But when liberals have a debate and no facts, they make up their own. Thus you have a one sided debate.

Just a couple of observations and one question

Mexico is a good example of what happens when very strict gun control is imposed on a nation in the "New World"

In the US we already have more guns in circulation than we do people. This was not the case in Europe when guns were banned successfully.

I live in San Antonio where home invasions are common. How am I to keep my family safe without a gun?
